Anyone happen to know if there is a fine, if you do not return a license plate to Florida DMV??

I thought I mailed mine back after I moved out of Florida, but apparently NOT. I recently found it amongst my "stuff". Expired in 2006.

I have looked on DMV's website and all I can find is that you are SUPPOSE to return it, but nothing about finerages.

I don't see why you have to return old expired license plates. Plates expire all the time, and when I go to renew my tags at the DMV, they tell me if one of my plates expired (usually after 5 years), and issue me a new one right there on the spot. They never mention I have to return the old one. They just say start using the new one they just issued to me immediately. Can you post the link where it says on the website that you have to return it?

I was told that once you purchase the tags they are yours.

No need to return them.

They never asked me for my plates back. I had one expire b/c I sold my car and never renewed it. A year later, I bought something else and they made me get another plate. They told me to toss it. I'd give them a call and have a talk about it. I think the thing that triggered it was b/c you cancelled your insurance.
