I agree with this. This may be more common in some of the subdivisions on the outskirts of town or whatnot, but in the Conway and Belle Isle areas, I see a lot of kids, people walking dogs, riding bikes, jogging, etc. I also tend to drive around at times and a lot of the neighborhoods tucked in 32806, Colonialtown, and Winter Park also have this. I think in the subdivisions it may be the tendency to congregate in areas like Waterford Lakes shopping center, or stay inside. It would be interesting to know obesity rates by zip code because it seems that the areas people complain about, where people are inactive and stay inside their home, have aggressive rude drivers, etc seem to all zero in on a certain couple parts of town. That could also be why my experience in Orlando and others may differ.

Also, how many pools are out front of the house? I know mine is in the back, well out of sight of the street (front and back streets) and my neighbors, but I hear many of the other neighbors in their pools as well.

Additionally, for those without pools, we have a comminity center pool. There is usually a gathering of folks there as well - we have dates on certain days of the week for 'group' meetings there, especially over the summer (I was invited to join 2 play groups with my daughter at our community pool).

I too, see everyone coming out later...bikes, dogs, walking, jogging, etc. I see them walking early in the day also.
Keep in mind, that the sun is dangerous to be in for hours - just as it is dangerous for kids to play in the snow or 30 degree weather for hours at a time. They need to take breaks , or find shady spots, or cool off in the pools or even, yes, indoors for spells.

Wilshire, I live in Orlando and I was raised in Central FL. I do think there is a more "sense of community" in some areas as opposed to Waterford Lakes. But I do however see the "rude people" and "aggressive driving" all over Orlando. It's not isolated, it is pretty widespread. I see it on the 408, I-4 (notorious for rage), the 417, Alafaya and Colonial out towards my house, all the way over to MetroWest. In fact, driving in MetroWest is terrible.

I have lived in other southern states, LA and TX, a few years ago we moved to Colorado and what a difference. People(strangers) actually say "hi". The quality of life here is much better than what I experienced down south. If you're that unhappy, have you thought of looking at moving elsewhere? Colorado is awesome!

I have to say that I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the amount of neighbor interaction/people doing things outdoors (weather permitting, of course) is probably a pretty direct correlation to how established the neighborhood is, as well as the average length of ownership of the homes in the community.

I had that happen to me when I lived in Syracuse. Rude behavior isn't isolated into the Orlando area.

One major problem is where you live. There is nothing on that side of town. If you lived in Downtown Orlando/Central Fl then it changes. You are young-you belong somewhere fun and exciting. Look up craigslist.com to find a new place to live-changing towns can make a huge positive impact on your life/attitude as a whole. it can be more expensive but you can move to a studio in downtown orl/central fl for not much at all. If u need help with ur seach let me know.

Do not leave your job-that is all you have right now. Look for a job on your days off. Do not give up.

Orlando has never really been a great place to live, except maybe back in the 60s. Today it's just too congested.

Your opinion. Someone who grew up in a rural town in Kansas with a population of 240 would think of Oveido as congested. Someone who grew up in NYC or Chicago would laugh at that statement. It's all relative.
