Moving to Orlando Area & Need Suggestions
I have been reveiwing some of the messages on this site and am wondering if anything has changed? I am planning on moving to the Orlando area within the next month (December 2009). Here is my situation. I will be moving to the Orlando are as part of a transfer with my job from Washington,DC. I need to find information on neighbohoods (apartments and single family homes) and schools (Child in 2nd grade). I am an afro-american single mother and I really want to live in a diverse neighborhood. I prefer to be surrounded by people of all cultures, not just black, white. hispanic or asian but all people.. I am looking for a middle class area with reasonable housing. But along with that I don't want to live in the hood. I want to be able to sit outside at night and not be afraid. I want to live in a nice neighbohood and not get looked at funny cause of the color of my skin. Where can I find a apartment/house which will allow us to be comfortable in all of these areas. Although I currently work in Washington, DC I live in Silver Spring, Maryland. Please help?? Will be making a house hunting trip next week.

I'm thiking College Park, Thorton Park, or Colonialtown if you want to be "in" Orlando.
But it depends on where you'll be working. Orlando is spread out. If you'll be working to the north, I'd look at Winter Springs. To the south I'd look at Lake Nona. To the west I'd look at Dr. Phillips or Clermont.
