I would choose the Orlando area (not Orlando itself but the neighboring smaller communites mentioned like Winter Garden, Winter Springs, Clermont, Oviedo) over Jacksonville and we have close family that live in Jacksonville...

Just read any of the mani US or City vs. city threads with all the New Yorkers and their bullish and entitled opinions. I hate broad generalizations but I see a lot of really bad conclusions drawn unfairly about Hispanic people in the Orlando area that are not all true. The same way I am sure not everyone in the NE is this way but it is a prevalent thinking pattern up there.
I agree about the NE mentality. I think many are so used to it, they just bring it with them, wherever it is they go. But obviously many of them choose FL, so we see it more than most people.

Regarding your 2nd comment... I'm just telling you what my family and I witness. But you see it too, as well as many, many others (or they wouldnt have said anything about it or have anything to be bothered about).

You should know that Jacksonville now has the highest crime rate in Florida (worse than Miami).

I would not live on the southside if you paid me. Crime is deplorable there just like everywhere else in Jax. The only faintly safe place around Jax are some areas of the Beaches, Baymeadows, Mandarin, and Ponte Vedra.

If you are new to the city and are going to live anywhere, you seriously need to understand that JAX is a dangerous place. You will enjoy it though, as long as you are street smart and safe.

I have never been able to adjust to Georgia and I want to move back to florida. I just don't want to go back to south florida. I have been to Orlando a few times and I like it. But I have heard both good and bad things about Jacksonville as well. Just curious about which city would be better to raise a child as a single parent.

Are you set on moving back to FL? You may just want to try a more urban setting in GA like Atlanta or that area, or go up to NC. You got Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Raleigh...

Hey Mr. 2 poster,Baymeadows and Mandarin are on the south side and make up quite a bit of the crux of the city,so I don't see how you can say it is deplorable and I can grant you the Jewish section of San Jose is not deplorable as well as San Marco.

Personally, I think all of Florida is great. Orlando seems like it has more to offer in terms of things to do. If you like the beach, Jacksonville would be good. Lake Buena Vista Florida is listed in the top 10 safest cities in Florida and nobody is under the poverty level. Disney world is located here and it is a suburb of Orlando. I'm not from here but I'm from MN so I don't know lots about the area, but I am interested and read up on lots of facts on FL. I'd consider living in the Orlando area.
