Hopefully , this is a harbinger of the future

I hope this is the start of a continuing trend for the city and the state. Maybe next year we will see a Florida city in the "Safest", column.

It is welcomed news from the stats of last year.

Hopefully, the people of Orlando will take this and run with it, and start getting involved more in there communities and actually make a difference instead of p***ing and moaning about crime. I'll do my part when I get back!

I think it's partially attributable to Darwinism. A lot of the gang-bangers have killed each other off.

Looks like the link you posted was from 2005. The link below lists Orlando as sixth most dangerous city in 2008 but I did hear the crime rate is down compared with last year.

As well as some high profile or repeat offenders being taken off the street! The OPD get a lot of flack but I think they are starting to take a lot more preventative measures instead of just being reactive to crime. I hope that trend continues to improve as well!

OK, here is 2009...

Looks like Orlando is 17th most dangerous city overall, and 18th most dangerous metro overall. 10th most dangerous city when compared to cities with population from 100-499k.

I'm sure in 2010 when the 2009 numbers are complete and they make a list based on 2009 alone, Orlando will keep getting ranked a higher number.
