This has been known for awhile that whites have been an ever shrinking demographic in Orange County, but as of 2008 I believe whites are now 49% of Orange County's population, though we are the largest ethnic group in the county, the minorities are now the majority here.

How does this make you guys feel? Do you think Orlando will be a better the same, or a worse off place to be because of this demgraphic shift?

I'd also like to note that the Orange County School Districts student body is 66% minorities

What do you guys think this means for Orlando?

I said, "I'm getting my butt outta here" but it's for a number of reasons.

I embrace the diversity. It hasn't impacted my way of life in any way and I don't expect it will in the future.

My neighborhood as well as area neighborhoods have been affected. I know many white folks that want to leave in my neighborhood. There's not many of us, but the ones I know do want to leave, or are at least thinking about it. I'm not sure it's due to the demographic changes we are seeing, or the property crimes that have occured. But I do know quite a few families that are unhappy with the way our neighborhood has gone the last few years.

I was going to Publix lastnight and saw two different incidents involving helicopters and police. Not sure why. On my way there to Publix, I was on Avalon Pk Blvd (a main road that connects all residents to Colonial and Alafaya - it's a busy road!) and also noticed two cars were just parked in the street - one in front of the other - and the people were just chatting it up. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET THEY WERE PARKED - AND THEY WERE JUST CHIT CHATTING! Everyone had to slow down and go around them. Inconveniencing everyone else. But what do they care? I couldnt believe it. Well, actually, I can. I think incidents like this do make it difficult to live in East Orlando.

When Whites are 49% of the population how can you say that they are a "minority"?

You can't just lump in Asians, Blacks, Hispanics, etc. into one "group"

I don't think that any of those other ethnicities make up 51% on their own....

I think he/she meant that Orange Co is now "minority-majority."

So if you really don't like everyone who isn't white you may not like this statistic

That's exactly what the minority majority means and many other US cities have that. It is less common in counties.

Does not compute. Being a "Hispanic" does not make you a racial minority.... ethnic minority at best.

[quote=Wilshire81182;12052528]So if you really don't like everyone who isn't white you may not like this statistic HUH? I never said anything of the sort, and I've known this statistic for over a year at least now. I dont like those who invade homes, steal cars, and drive like they are the only ones on the roads. And whatever color that happens to be, so be it.

That's exactly what the minority majority means and many other US cities have that. It is less common in counties. That's correct, I was guessing what the OP was trying to illustrate (my guess is that he/she was trying to say Orange Co is minority-majority).
