So, I was planning to apply to Valencia as an international student for fall 2010 and was checking around their website today (at application and such) like I have done many times before. Imagine my surprise and horror when I notice that they have raised their out of state tuition cost to $13069 for one year Last I checked it was around $7000-8000. I mean UCF only charges $3000 more, that´s kind of ridiculous.
And Seminole CC charges $6879 per academic year, that is a really big difference. Guess that will change soon.

Could anyone (smarter than me) please explain this price hike? And how can Seminole charge so much less?

Feel so sad because even though I get to loan $23000 per year to finance college with, this tuition raise prices me right out of attending VCC. (they want you to cover $17,000 in living expense cost too).

Hopefully they will change back to the old price.

It's not changing back. All public colleges and universities in Florida--and the majority of the US--are raising tuition and fees to actually cover their operating costs rather than raise taxes. After all, why should taxpayers pay for your (or anyone elses) secondary education?

Totally agree with you annerk! I come from a country where all education (even college and study abroad) is payed for with taxpayers money and it sucks as we have to pay like 30-40% in taxes and then pay taxes on everything we buy. I just feel sad that it happened, I had no idea it was that bad. I have tried to save as much as I can and have the loan, but the money isn´t enough anyways. Sorry for the self-pity, just want to move from Sweden so bad. Anyone want to trade?

Do you have any idea if Seminole will raise the price too? The tuition just seems so low comparing to Valencias.

Thanks for letting me know

I am sure that Seminole is also raising tuition, I don't know how much but I do know that ALL Florida public colleges and universities were going to ahve tuition hikes due to the funding cuts in teh state budget.
