If you are going by what random Stetson students have to say, that explains everything. How many people in their late teens/early 20's seek out small town life? DeLand simply is NOT the way you have portrayed it. Period.
Of course we are giving out biased information, because we were asked for our opinions! Your opinion is that Deland and West Volusia are peachy, well who is to say your opinion isnt all whacked out? I don't need to live in an area to know that it gives me the heebie jeebies, all I have to do is spend 5 minutes there. And I've spent way more than that out there.

And yes you are being defensive. My earlier comment has everything to do with Deland/Deltona and the surrounding area because it was the subject of my post. What you are attempting to do sir is to demand your portrayal of the area be the only correct protrayal, and that is not so. Your argument that deland is charming and lively comes from your own paradigm, and it may very well be that way for you, however the argument that it is creepy, run-down feeling, and dead is the paradigm of some other folks here and they are properly entitled to express it that way as you are entitled to express your views without the name calling or accusations of whacked out opinions, those simply are not needed.

I could care less how insulting you are to my opinion, it stands. You are obviously not familiar with the area - with the exception of too many cypress trees , and feeling "creeped out" on I-4 in that area for some reason. How that accurately portrays DeLand is beyond me, or anyone else that I have ever spoken to there. I have been going there my entire life, have relatives that have been there for several generations and am frankly more qualified to speak on the area than you are. Deal with it.

Neither one of you have a clue as to what the area is really like - in my opinion, of course.

This site is designed for people to learn about various areas. Bad information is just that, bad information.

I was not referring to I-4 as being the only creepy part, I meerly mentioned I-4 being creepy. I have been in Deland and Deltona many many times to visit friends, attent some functions, etc. I have a fairly good Idea of both towns.

I am not in any way insulting your opinion, just giving mine. If my opinion insults you, or you feel as though it is an incorrect protrayal, then kindly disagree and move on.

Besides you are how old? For you the town may have everything you are looking for, I on the other hand am a college student so I can relate to what someone is looking for as a college student.

For someone to make an informed decision they need all aspects, and multiple opinions, not just the one that you feel is right to you. We all perceive things differently and who is to say that this person see's it the same way you do.
