I am not going to bad mouth Orlando. It is still a great city that has SO MUCH going for it, and I hope one day it will become the gleaming metropolis it deserves to be

But no place is perfect, and Orlando is not for everyone (no 1 city is for everyone)

Orlando has become a big city in the past 15+ years I have been here on and off, and with it comes a lot of big city problems

The traffic is really getting to me now, I still enjoy taking my car out for a drive but these unsynchronized red lights, careless "me first" drivers, along with people who insist on going 40 in a 55 zone is one

Two is this...For the most part people here are still pretty good but I notice that there are a lot more rude people then there used to be, it is becoming more and more like my home state of Connecticut every day

Three is...there is not enough things to do here. When I say that I mean there is not enough free entertainment and activities around here. If it is a saturday night and you have no money, you will be bored off your ass. If you have the cash to burn (and lots of it) the fun is almost endless (but even that will run dry because clubs and bars close at 2 am)

Four...I hate the fact that this city seems to shut down at 10 PM. Unless you are into clubbing or shopping at Wal-Mart there is absolutely NOTHING to do after 10 except sit on city data and whine about how there's nothing to do .

I dont blame the city itself, I blame the folks in it, the people running the city who make the laws, along with the increasing number of rude residents. There is still a lot of good here, maybe perhaps I just cant find it

I am looking forward to moving to Las Vegas really soon, but I know I will miss Orlando and I will still continue to post on here as a lot of you guys are a pretty spirited bunch who have a lot of pride in this city (pride i once had)

Perhaps I have just been here too long and am ready for a change (why I am moving) But im just curious, besides ComSense and NoodLes is anybody else worn out on Orlando? Who knows, I may end up coming back here one day to start a family (if I decide Vegas is not the place to do it)

I'm not worn out on Orlando. We don't really have that problem in Lake Mary with rude ppl and traffic which I'm greatful for. I think there is plenty to do here that is free. I'm not a late night person either, so that maybe why I can find plenty to do.

We've been here about 10 years and my husband and I are ready for a change. We would like some seasons again being that we moved here from PA. We'd like to move to North Carolina eventually once the housing market gets better.

I know the grass isn't always greener on the other side either. I feel you have to try different things out to see what you like. I like Orlando, but if it was your vacation spot before you moved here, that all changes. It would be nice to make it our vacation destination again and do the touristy stuff we used to do before moving here.

Beckycat, thank you for your positive post about the Orlando area. My family will be moving to the Orlando area (we are still looking for rentals) from North Carolina this summer. While I will miss North Carolina I am really looking forward to the move. I have been reading this forum for several months and I have gained a lot of insight of the different areas and their personalities. But sometimes it seems that the negative views are louder then the positive. We just came back from looking at homes in both Seminole and Orange County and I understand that there will be good and bad that come with the move. Yet like I said the negative post can really scare you. Your positive post, Beckycat, is encouraging to hear. I do hope that DavieJ89 will find it more to his liking in Las Vegas.

Thanks janetrosa! If and when we do move from here, I know I will miss it. I will definately be back to visit. Funny how we have several ppl here on CD either moving here from NC or leaving FL for NC. Why are you leaving NC?

I can understand DavieJ89 too. When I was in PA, I too got tired of it and couldn't wait to get out of there. As for my move here 10 years ago, it has always been a positive experience for me and I'd recommend it to anybody.

For DavieJ89, I hope you enjoy it better in Las Vegas. As I said, sometimes ppl like yourself are just ready for a change.

I can understand where you're coming from Davie, even though I'm always adamant about the positive aspects of Orlando in my posts. I love Orlando, but I moved away for college. I couldn't wait to leave, actually. It was probably more of a fidgety need to get out of the nest, but it's true that Orlando can seem run out of entertainment options when you've done almost everything. Like any area, it can get old. And after 15 years I was ready for something new.

I think a lot of it comes from perspective. Now that I've lived in Manhattan for almost a year, I have come to realize a lot of the positives of Orlando. I'd much rather risk traffic everyday than have to deal with crazy people on the subway or paying a million bucks for a mile taxi ride. I miss the trees and the grass and the sun. I miss the malls and the restaurants and the theme parks. I'm literally counting down the days till I'm home for summer (24!!). Even though New York is incredible and I love it, I may end up moving back to Orlando eventually. I can't imagine never living there again.

I hope you enjoy Las Vegas- you'll have to tell us how your experience there compares to your experience in Orlando

My husband is in the alarm business and he is transferring to the Winter Park office. He was made quite a nice offer to go and head up the Florida area and it was to good to pass up. Additionally I have family in the Orlando area and none here. I will miss NC. My husband retired from the military here we didn't want to go back to our home town (he is from Memphis and I am from NJ).
Why are you planning to move to up to NC? Do you already have an area in mind?

Davie, LV, like Orlando is a lot different when you are living there full time. I've spent time out there and as you noted with Orlando, it cost money to do anything there as well and you can run through money faster when it's being gambled (Casino's aren't really in business to give money away, if you gamble set yourself a limit and when that's gone, walk away. If you are ahead, quit, the longer you play, you will lose it). We're working on our third year and we still enjoy living here. there are a few rude people, but I've found most to be pretty decent. We're just a short distance from Daytona, Cocoa or Melbourne, so long as we have sand and surf, we're happy.
Have a good time in Vegas (don't forget to take heavier clothing, it does get cold in the desert at night).

Like Starrman said, if you don't have money, then what's the point in living in a big city. In fact, you're gonna feel worse since you see alot more wealthy people than you, old money that you will probably never even get close too. Not saying LV is a big city or anything, but being in a high class, upscale area with little money is worse than being in a place that gets boring with money in your pocket.

My main gripe with Orlando is that, on a national level, all you see is NEGATIVE news about it. When you turn on the news you either see a death at Disney, a child kidnapping, etc. Rarely, rarely do you see a mover or shaker like in politics that puts the city in a good light. Good ex: Mildred Fernandez and Tiger. In large cities you see alot more culture and positive news on the national level.

Orlando has beautiful winters, but as a well liked newscaster who recently moved to a nicer, bigger market told me, there's too much crime and weird things going on here.

DavidJ89, I am going through the same kind of feeling right now. I am going back to shool for 2 more years to get another degree and I have decided hopefully to move out of Orlando/Florida. This is hoping that the economy improves in a few years which was part of my decision to go back to school. I think more of anything it is me and not neccessarily Orlando although you do have some very vaild points which I have started to notice the past few years. I am bored of doing the same thing all the time with the same people. Sometimes you just need a change. I love my family and my friends most of whom live in Central Florida but it's not enough to keep me here anymore. I love Orlando and always will, I have been here for over 20 years, but I am ready for a change...even if it is a few years from now.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Orlando. I'm worn out from the current economy. I came home with a B.A. and 2 years of professional experience and nobody will even look at me without a Masters meanwhile I came home after all the deadlines passed.

A friend of mine was teaching at a High School here for the last 2 years and was laid off today only because of budget cuts and he was the only person in the English department capable of being let go, the school had to get rid of six people so did one from each department.

Many of my friends are finishing up at UCF this semester - none are working in the field they wanted to be. My friends from Miami that graduated with me, most of them are working in an unrelated field or pursuing a Masters.

This is a problem of unemployment all over the country. I would love to work here in Orlando and have put applications in but I've also put in applications all over the country. Part of me does want to leave because I'd like to move away from my home town. I went away to University and never really expected to be back here in the first place. Again not because I dislike it but because to me I want to get out of my hometown, I want to start my own life somewhere away from history and family. Someplace that is just mine if that makes any sense.

At this point after submitting over 60 applications I've finally started hearing back in the last week. Have a second interview coming up for a job in Oklahoma City and a first interview for a Fellowship Job in New York City on Tuesday.
