Bill,

My wife and I are soon closing on our home in Clermont. Most of the time we've spent there is with family and they've lived in Clermont for about 5 years.

It's a smaller suburb of Orlando about 15-20 minutes West of Orlando in Lake County. It's has quite a few hills and orange groves... lots of new development.

There is some traffic congestion on SR-50 (Colonial) as it's the main route between Clermont and Orlando. There are other ways in and out of the area but that one sees the most traffic.

My cousin and her family have really enjoyed Clermont the last 5 years bring their kids up through middle school and now high school. You have access to just about all of the common suburban chain restaurants. Of course you've got a Public (more than 1?), Sweet Bay, Super Target, Walmart, etc. which have all been developed recently. There is also a newer outdoor shopping area with a mall and few stores.

Future development includes a higher-end shopping area (can't think of the name) and a new turnpike exit to help break up some of the traffic on 50.

Hope this helps.

Clermont near the Winter Garden area is a great area to move to.

Beautiful burbs with actual hills dotted with new construction & remnants of orange groves. Quick shot to Disney and depending on where in Clermont and your elevation/vantage point, you might even get to see nightly fireworks from Magic Kingdom & Epcot. It's also a direct shot west into downtown Orlando and without traffic, maybe 20 minutes. You are actually at the intersection of our western beltway, our east-west bisector, and the turnpike which hits those two roads at a angle as it turns north for Gainesville & Ocala. It is however, the true edge of suburbia so get ready for people acting like it's the boonies, get ready for people telling you it's the middle of nowhere, and get ready to drive a little for some amenities. All these things considered, it's a great bedroom community of metro Orlando and close to so much of the good stuff.

I've been here since 2004 and love it. Close enough to everything yet far enough away that it's still quiet with a small town feel.

I've been in this area since I was in 6th grade (I am 33 now). I love it and wouldn't want to live anywhere else!

We moved to Minneola 6 months ago and really like it here. It's quieter than Orlando, feels safer and we have a gorgeous view from our backyard as we are on a hill.

Is there much difference between Minneola and Clermont? I've been pricing homes in the area on realtor.com. Are there any developments that we should stay away from when looking at homes in that area?
