Angry Is Winter Park, Florida a good place to raise my kids?

I'm going insane trying to figure out if the move to Florida is a good choice. I know there is crime everywhere, but I'm looking for good schools, family friendly neighborhoods, low crime, recreation, good jobs and things to do for fun. I traveled to most parts of Florida and narrowed it down to either Sarasota or Winter Park. Are these good choices? I need feedback from people who know about these places. Thanks Tons!!!

Near park ave in Winter Park is really nice. Plus there's alot to do in Orlando. I know people in Sarasota and they love it.There about 20 mins from the beach. It just depends on what lifestyle you like better. GOOD LUCK

We raised our son in Winter Park. It is a great place. I would highly recommend it.

I love Winter Park and feel it's one of the best areas in Orlando. When I go see movies in Orlando, I typically go to WP just because it seems the kids at the theater are a little more respectful than other places.

Yes, Winter Park is a great area but the post asked about several things.
1. good schools - check
2. Family friendly - check
3. Low crime - next!
4. Recreation - check
5. Good jobs - er...well...uh...no.
6. Fun things to do - check (if you can afford it)

This poster is from PA so the taxes should not be an issue but the pay may be.

I live in Port Orange. We go to Winter Park sometimes for shopping, eating out, etc. It's nice for doing that, but I would never raise my kids there. I wouldn't raise them anywhere in the Orlando area. I had considered Orlando before moving here and I'm so glad that I didn't go there. The Orlando area is crime ridden. My news is out of Orlando and it's filled with violent crimes everyday. They said this week that they are having record numbers of crime incidents. Check out a place like Port Orange. You are still less than an hour from the things Orlando offers to do. Plus you are 10-15 minutes from the beautiful Daytona Beaches. Here there's excellent schools, very low crime and it's really nice.

Almost without exception the violent crimes in Orlando happen in the same 2 or 3 areas. I've lived here for 23 years, in south Orlando, Winter Park and now in East Orlando in one of the new communities and never have I nor anyone I know been a victim of crime. Winter Park and the area of Orlando I'm in now is a GREAT area for raising kids. Please don't paint of all the Greater Orlando area with the same brush. It's just not true.

I live in Orlando and I'm certainly not 'batty' whatever that means. There are many beautiful, nice areas of Orlando.
