I could not disagree with your friend more. The area of 408 and 436 is one of the 5 areas that the Orlando Police have stepped up patrols on due to the crime problem. They plotted 5 of the highest crime areas on Orlando according to the June 11th Orlando Sentinel...

The "dots" are high-crime areas -- all plotted on poster-sized maps of the city displayed at the news conference. They include several west-side neighborhoods in Parramore, Mercy Drive, Kirkman Road, Washington Shores, Rosemont, downtown Orlando and another just south of Semoran Boulevard and State Road 408. Semoran is another name for 436.

If you want to live on that side of town, look further east to Waterford Lakes, Tivoli Woods or Vista Lakes. You will be a few miles further east of the city, but in much better surroundings.

Default Waterford Lakes/Oviedo

Waterford Lakes and Oviedo are off the 417 and not too far from 408/436. These are both nice areas with good schools/neighborhoods. Maybe your friend was talking about Stoneybrook near the airport? There are also some very nice areas off of 436 near the airport - Lake Nona area. College Park is also near the 408, an older part of town with some nicer areas. It depends on what you're looking for, but there are also nice areas in Altamonte Springs, Longwood and Lake Mary (my favorite). Good Luck!

The Lake Nona area is an up and comming area you also might want to look at Dr. Phillips, Windermere and Hunter's Creek. They are on the other side of town but all good areas with good schools.
