A telephone operator. Telephone operators used to take incoming calls, pull up a connector and plug it into a socket onto the switchboard in front of them. In one of the department stores in the city where I lived, the telephone operators were in a place where the public could see them. I was fascinated by the way they pulled up those connectors and plugged them into the sockets and how they would unplug them and the connectors would snap back to where they belonged. I was about 6 or 7 at the time and would stand there and watch them while my mom shopped.
Wow, we've come a long way Baby! I also remember being fascinated by seeing them ^ in action in old movie or tv show clips.
My first career aspiration was librarian at about 5. I used to play act being one with all my kid books and the top of a dresser and a lamp was my check out station - weird
Oops I forgot the ballerina one a tad earlier - always loved to get up on my grandpas foot stool and pretend so my mom enrolled me in dance class.

You’ll find these two clips very funny as Lily Tomlin portrays a telephone operator. I think Cunucu Beach would probably do much better in this type of career then did Lily. LOL
The funny thing is many years ago I removed from service an old PBX system and cord board like Lily is using. I've still got it in the back of the garage under a sheet of plastic drop cloth. I also installed the first processor controlled PBX switching system in that same office a few months later.
