We used to use this nasty spray called Stiff Stuff...until they took it off the shelves because it contained some form of glue (which explains why when you took a shower, your hair got all gloopy), then we switched to Aquanet. I remember how our hair was so high in the front yet usually flat in the back because you couldn't get all the way back there to "tease" it. Blue eyeliner, pink lipstick.

You ain't seen nothing yet....
....you should've seen me back in the day...1972....
Starting from the ground up.....
- White patent leather boots, over the calf, that had a zipper
- Double knit, chocolate brown bell bottom pants with white pinstripes
- White patent leather belt, two inches wide
- Pink paisley shirt
- White crushed velvet tie, FOUR inches wide.
This look was nick-named "The Full Cleveland" and still, I laugh when I think of these duds. Got rid of this stuff years ago. Burned the pics.

O.K., the Elvira hair style, layered and standing HIGH. Yes I was quilty. As well as the rest of the stuff mentioned here. Moccassin boots !! How about the clips with the long leather string and feathers on them, that you cliped to your hair ???
I have lots to post, but for now, In my immediate past, I miss not being hooked on this forum LOL !!! What did I do before finding this ????? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it !!! Just have a hard time pulling away.
We still have Ice Cream trucks in my neck of the wood also, but some of them, I would definately be sceptical of !! Drivers should be screened, because 99.9% of thier business is with children, and now a days, here, you can never be too safe with your kids !!!

I was born in the 80's, but funny... I sometimes think I was born in the wrong era! I wish we could go back to simpler times when people treated each other decently, when we didn't have women & men, we had ladies & gentlemen! I love the old big band music, and the jazz and outfits of the roaring 20's as well. Nothing is authentic anymore, no mom & pop stores. Everything is so commercialized.
But there are also things I am glad for: the civil rights movement, music of all the times since then (except rap, yes LOL). Progress is good but I think we've gotten lost.
*sigh* so I guess I miss something that I never really experienced, only knew from my grandma.

Mike - you freakin' stud!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's so funny because I used to ask my father why he thought he looked cool wearing shoes as high as my mothers (those black dress shoes with that "little" extra chunk heel in the back). I also dig the pictures of the mauve pants, white shirt and black jacket...okay, where did the mauve come into that?!?!?!?! My mom always looked great though, the 70's were definitely her element, but man, I feel bad for you men that had to go through that era....whew, john travolta you were not!!! LOL And WHAT was up with those SIDEBURNS? they came around and practically attached at the front without quite making it all the way there!!! The best part is that all you moms and dads of the 70's had us kids dressed like that too!!!!! I guess you took advantage of the fact that we were too young to dispute brown checkered pants with a green shirt and hush puppy shoes, and why did you have to give us all dutchboy haircuts....aaaaggghh!!!!
But Mike (and all you other "disco ducks"), I'm just kidding, actually I always say I was born in the wrong era too, I love the 60's and 70's. Give me some flip flops, jeans, A LOT of classic rock, some donna and bee gees, some chunky shoes, a dude with long hair (oops, my husband has short hair!), tattoos, bell bottoms, blinking floors, feathered hair and no hairspray, my own room that's green and turquoise or pink and orange, a chaise lounge, maybe a beer and I'm good to go!!!!
BTW, to whomever mentioned those feathers on the long ropes...those were awesome, when we were kids, we'd put them in our hair and make believe we were hippies...then they stopped making them because those little clips at the ends were being used as "roach" clips to smoke those funny little smelly cigarettes LOL.
Hey, anybody from the 80's remember having "ka-bangers" and getting hurt with them????

My first response is that it's very sad that if I decide to have children, they won't be able to have the kind of childhood I enjoyed. Running around in the woods, playing in creeks and catching frogs and garden snakes, finding places to go sledding in the winter, bike races, pickup kickball games, etc. Not to say you can't do these things as a kid anymore, but you're going to need parental supervision at all times in most areas of the country. And parents don't always have time for that. Drive around most neighborhoods and you just don't see kids playing outside anymore...it's sad.
Other memories of "old days"?
Legitimate sports heroes. I grew up with Michael Jordan, Joe Montana, Nolan Ryan, and Wayne Gretzky. As good as some of the newer players are, the attitudes of the players I mentioned on and off the field, and the way they personified the games they played, will not be matched.
Fewer chain restaurants dishing out overpriced frozen foods. I love independent restaurants and wish there were more in the 'burbs. AppleBees, Fridays, Bennigans, and the Cheesecake Factory are pretty pitiful excuses for dining.
Popular music being synonymous with GOOD music. The best music today is underground, and most of that smacks of catering to a "hipper-than-thou" audience. Where are the groups like Van Halen and Cheap Trick who put out great tunes you can sing along to, feature great musicianship, put out a new album and toured every year, had unique personalities, and were just plain FUN?
New neighborhoods where every house was different instead of 3 or 4 cookie-cutter models. This has been discussed in many topics, and while the McMansions are spacious and comfortable (and I wouldn't turn one down), I'd much rather see some variety.
Ronald Reagan. (Sorry, had to slip that one in there. I'm a Reagan Republican through and through and believe his presidency was the best since FDR).
I could go on and on, but these will do for now...
