Mother of the bride needs help! (to buy, daughter, places, wedding)

I am the mother of the bride, and my daughter's wedding is scheduled for October in Charlotte, NC.

Here's the problem: I am a 5-feet 4-inch, little round lady. Where does one find a plus-size formal dress??? If anyone knows a great website, I would love to hear about it.

I thought several of these were lovely and at least you would be able to depend on the quality. Also, you could have one made. My mother made prom dresses for half of the girls in my school who couldn't afford to buy one or couldn't wear off the rack. Her dresses looked so much better than store bought because they could be tailored perfectly. Even the snooty girls that could have afforded the most expensive went to Mom because if they could describe it she could sew it so they would have an original as well as have a perfect fit every time. Try to find a woman in your area who sews and ask for references and pictures.

Do you have a David's Bridal? They have great prices and size selection. I needed a small size and they had it when other places didn't, so it seems they have all the sizes. I hear ya on the short bit...I'm 5'2...we're short but sweet

Also, have you ever thought of getting a dress made for you? That way, you won't have to have a store-bought dress altered for you and you can have it made with details that you like (secret pockets, etc.) and be more likely to wear it again

BTW, traditional bridal shops' lines of dresses are Euro-sized, meaning they run super small. For instance, I am normally a size 4 dress. Well, I had to order a size 10 according to the bridal store. I compared the measurements and knew the sizing charts for non-bridal dresses and was shocked, but I went with it...It did fit LOL. My friend is a regular size 10-12 and she had to order a size 22 in her dress. Isn't that just crazy?

Too bad you don't live by me, I know a great seamstress/dressmaker.
