Lol I totally agree! I dont understand the whole coffee shop as a meeting place either unless two people really love coffee. I hate the stuff and never go to coffee shops.

Restaurant people don't have lives and eavesdrop ,coffee shop people are too self absorbed to pay attention to your conversation.

This should not be a thread about trying to get me into a coffee shop, I am too stubborn for that. Instead, I want to discuss the ever growing rift between segments of people.
So it would be safe to say you are trying to start a brewha?

Some diners used to be called coffee shops. Even better. Inexpensive coffee and good food.

That's true. To this day you won't see women in those, not even in Greece! A traditional old-fashioned kafenio is a male territory.

That's the type of customers they get and the type of activities. Guys play with their worry beads, play backgammon and cards, and do a lot of people-watching and gossiping. Same goes even for a kafenio in Germany owned by Greeks.

I do not like coffee shops because for meetings just because there are so many people there doing the same thing. There is inevitably always that one loud, obnoxious group that overtakes what should be a quieter atmosphere. I can't imagine why anyone would go there for a date or meeting. I would rather go to a local 24 hour diner for a calmer atmosphere.

Yeah, down here that is done with some regularity. There's usually plenty of seating so you don't feel like you're tying up a table and a waiter/waitress if you hang out for awhile. However if neither of you drink coffee....

Sometimes it is loud and not conducive to converstation....just depends on the particular place. Some are quieter than others.
