Feed a sheet of wax paper between the tool's gears.
Turn the crank to cut through the sheet.
The paper will dislodge stuck-on residue from the blade while
depositing a thin was coating that will re-lubricate the wheels.
Just a few twists will have your can opener working as good as new.

ha ha...yeah anytime you have something that is used quite often it always helps to lubricate it occasionally just in case.......
I just love those hold in the hand and crank to loosen openers....sometimes you just feel like grabbin the hammer and a flathead screwdriver and goin to work.....

I usually run my Oxo through the dishwasher now and then to remove any goop. I don't use it much for people food, mainly the dogs delightfully smelly canned stuff (I hesitate to actually call that cucka food!!)
