I'm from California and when I moved to Texas, I was referred to as a Yankee as well.........from CA, okay.
Southern hospitality really isn't all it's cracked up to be; I agree with that for sure.

The Arizona forum is pretty decent. We have a few that hate the state and the heat and complain quite a bit about the traffic. I find a few snippy people, but overall it is very helpful. I do bounce around the other forums looking for a future retirement area. Does this make someone a "Troll"? I am rather new at this.

A troll is someone who deliberately posts controversial opinions to stir up trouble. Having a negative opinion of a place doesn't make anyone a troll. Spilling hatred in each and every post, may do the trick. Trolling

I love our state forum....I usually post there more than anywhere, and if I only have a short time to be on here, I check those threads first. I like the people there too, and we don't always agree, but I think we get along. Everyone once in a while we get a "troll", and that seems to happen in spurts. The biggest problem we have is that as Mainers we tend to have a dry sense of humor, and it doesn't always type out well! We're also not always very politically correct, and although we don't mind, some posters don't appreciate it. Oh, well....can't please everyone!

Jacksonville, FL
I would say the Jacksonville Florida board is okay, not anything great, the people are nice enough I guess. I am really sick of people making Jacksonville out to be this crazy crime infested city though! It's no worse than other cities! I was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL.. I have lived in Jax for all but 3 years of my life and I never once had any problems with crime in Jacksonville! In the 3 miserable years I have been stuck in tiny Palm Coast I have been robbed. I think it's funny that people talk about not wanting to move to Jax because of the crime and I have never had anything happen there, but as soon as I move out of Jax to a small city I get robbed! Its kind of like how everyone hates "pit bulls" and always has a story of a "pit bull" attacking someone they know. I have been around "pit bulls" (American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers) for over 10 years and my husband and I currently own two American Pit Bull Terriers. I have never been bitten, attacked or even growled at by a "pit bull" and I don't know anyone who has, but I have been attacked by a lab. My neighbors lab (not the same one that attacked me) attacked 5 people and my little brother was one of them. It's funny how things work out sometimes!

I enjoy the Tennessee forum. I hope to retire in Tennessee and have found the Tennessee forum to be a wealth of information.

My state forum?? I'm really not sure where I'm supposed to be.
I was born and raised in IL...but only 9 miles to IN, where I worked for 15 years. Hubby is from KY... and we've spent quite a few years there, but technically... we are now FL residents. However, today we are in NE and will be here for the next 4 months. So.... where do I belong?

How about the forum of the state in which you would like to live?

Alaska forum is great, but I do get a lot of questions about living in bush villages that sometimes are exactly the same as a thread 2 weeks before. I don't mind answering, but when my answers take a half page to complete (and I'm a poor typist at best), I don't always answer as completely as I would like.
I would like to point out that I like this forum, but some of the threads appear to be brought up just to have a thread open.

My state forum(PA), not crazy about it....
how about you?

Personally, I love the PA forum, especially the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area sub-forum, but I do wish that the political overtone could quiet down a bit. It has already scared away two wonderful long-time members (PensyPat and I LOVE PA), and I fear it might soon be scaring off even more. What's so neat about this is that we're all living within an hour from each other, more or less, so with all of the activity we have on there in terms of the large number of local members (we're almost the busiest sub-forum in PA), we're bound to bump into each other when we're out and about (as I did with Rockyy at Lowe's not too long ago). There's more helpful people on the PA forum than detrimental ones.

I try to instill a little humor in my state forum and everyone gets pissed at me. Alot of people in my state forum like to beat around the bush with the phrase "up and coming". I just flat out say that the place is a dump, no jobs, combat zone, etc, and people get mad at me for being straight to the point.
Most PA people have no sense of humor at all in the forum either.
|
I'll agree that "sense of humor" is non-existent in PA, where people are too image-conscious to allow themselves to let their hair down, loosen the tie, and unwind. I'm tired of bickering with people in photo tour threads because they take harmless satire WAY out of context (anyone remember my argument about admiring a house for "looking haunted" when another newbie who lived right next to the home came online to pick a fight?)
By the way, I'm well aware of the fact that the "a lot of people" you are referencing with the "up-and-coming" comment is code word for me and me alone, as I seem to be the region's sole cheerleader anymore. NEPA, overall, is a much better place to call home than it was in the 1990s, and its future continues to look bright to all of those who aren't wearing blinders to Wall Street West, the commuter rail to NYC, the upcoming medical school, upcoming law school, soaring property values, growing arts scene, etc.

I was just in the San Diego thread and they have some awesome pics posted same with Alaska...and SWB has posted some cool shots of housing and such in PA.
I vote for more pics!
Just my 2 pesos...

Thanks! Your wish is my command! A handy shortcut to all of my photo tours thus far can be found in an "announcement" at the top of the NEPA sub-forum. Check it out in case you may have missed a few.

I'm moving to MO in August, and I completely agree with da jammer...the MO forum is great. Everyone is so nice, friendly and helpful. I have only met a handful of people from MO but this would describe them as well. I am excited about moving and my only complaint about the MO forum is that I wish more people from MO participated, particularly in the Kansas City region. And keep the KCK questions out! Kansas City, Kansas questions go in the Kansas forum.
|
Best of luck with your move! You and I don't talk on a personal level, but I've long-admired you from afar for being one of the only nice people on the NJ forum. I could start a new thread saying "NJ is a great place to live" and get red dots galore with comments like "troll", "doesn't live here", etc. I could also start a new thread saying "NJ is an overpriced, congested dump" and get those same red dots and negative comments from the same exact people! Is there any way to "break bread" with Jersey folk, or are people in the Garden State just eternally angry at everyone?

Agreed. However, you must admit that some of the BEST threads on this entire forum orginate right in the very own NEPA sub-forum in PA.

It's not that bad. If you want "bad", then head to the NJ forum where people who are miserable with their state's government take out their anger and frustrations upon innocent bystanders (such as moi) with red dots, negative comments, allegations of "trolling", etc. without letting you get a word in edgewise. I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'll be getting at LEAST one more red dot for this paragraph as well from whom I suspect is the SAME person who just can't give up the big fight we all had back in December on the NJ forum, even though I apologized for my role in it and NEVER received a similar apology from any of them.

Awwww!!! I'll be your friend!!! Move to Honesdale, PA, which is a spitting image of Pikeville, KY, and I'll treat you to lunch at a nice place near Lake Wallenpaupack.
