Default Today's Tip ~ Tuesday, November 16, 2010

We're on the downside of November already!
How'd THAT happen? Today's Tip may come in helpful as we find ourselves in cold and flu season. Scroll on down, kids!

Most people know that Vitamin C has numerous health benefits. It may help prevent maladies ranging from the common cold to deadly diseases like cancer. Most people also know that citrus fruits are good sources of Vitamin C. A 6-oz. serving of orange juice provides about 60 milligrams of Vitamin C.

But you may not be aware of these other foods which are good C sources:

1. 1/2 cup broccoli has about 45 mg of C.
2. Add a slice of tomato to your sandwich! One small tomato contains about 25 mg of C.
3. 1/2 of a medium papaya or mango = about 95 mg of C.
4. Red, yellow and orange peppers contain twice the amount of Vitamin C that green peppers do.
5. 1/2 cup of kohlrabi or jicama has about 45 mg of C.
6. A small baked potato (yes!!) contains about 25 mg. of C.
7. A kiwi fruit has about 55 mg of C.

These are just a few additional sources of Vitamin C. Enjoy getting your vitamins the natural way!

Caution: If you are considering taking dietary supplements, be sure to consult your physician first.

Also cranberry juice is an excellent cource of vitamin-c, plus it's a great antioxidant and also helps prevent or break up kidney stones.

Good tips, Pam. While I don't like most of what's on the list, I do eat baked potatos all the time. Of course there's no "small" to it LOL I have a monster sized one

It also contains d-mannose which keeps bacteria from sticking to the lining of the urinary tract. So it's great for preventing UTI's.
