I'm sure there are a whole variety of ways for people to donate to the aid efforts in Japan. Buying from a site that sells Made in Japan products is one way.....but probably directly donating the Red Cross would be more beneficial at this time.

^^ good points,,,, just be careful it's not a scam and little or no money goes to help them. There are fund raising groups that keep a large percentage of what is raised for themselves. Trust in who you give money to, and check out how much of your dollar goes to the cause it was intended for.

By all means, do your due diligence before donating money. There will be loads of scam artists popping up over the next few weeks. Ask questions. Here's a link to investigating a charity before giving:

Nonprofits Working in the Pacific (http://www2.guidestar.org/rxg/give-to-charity/nonprofits-working-in-the-pacific.aspx - broken link)

One good way to check on a charity's record is through Guide Star: GuideStar nonprofit reports and Forms 990 for donors, grantmakers and businesses

I received this link from a colleague in Japan:
Japan Center for International Exchange - ?????????????

This organization is splitting donations between immediate relief and rebuilding efforts. You may wish to donate to organizations providing only immediate relief now, and donate again to other organizations helping to rebuild later.
