Hi, kids! All of the credit for Today's Tip goes to Tek-Freek. (Thanks, Tek! ) Scroll on down for some great advice.
PAINT
When you finish painting for the day, but you know you have to do some more, leave the paint on the brush/roller and wrap it tightly in Saran wrap. Place it in the refrigerator. It will stay wet and the brush/roller will stay pliable until you are ready to paint again.
PAINT CANS
Drill a small hole in the bottom of the drip edge where the lid snaps in to let the excess paint run back into the can. When you drill, hold a plastic spoon under the area so it will catch the metal from the drilling.
When you close the can, use some Saran wrap to cover it between the lid and the can. But, before you spread it over the top, take a deep breath and let it out in the can. The carbon dioxide keeps the paint from skimming over.
I LOVE to paint. I use all these, plus I also put a plastic garbage bag over the roller/drip pan. That way when I'm done for the day, all I have to do is pull it off inside out and there's no mess. I just throw the bag away.
I'm assuming this is for latex paint only. I hate painting and especially cleanup. I'd prefer to finish a job once starting and not have to cleanup and start over later. Cheaper to throw rollers away that to clean takes way too much water to clean. If i had room in the fridge i may try it. Thanks Pam and Tek!
Those are great tips Pam & Tek. I will put them to use in the future. As for left over (latex or non-oil) paint in the can, I add just a little “water” to form a pool on top of the surface. This keeps the air away from the paint and the stops the skimming affect.
If you add a small amount of vanilla extract and mix it with the paint, you can help eliminate the paint odor.
I use the saran, but haven't tried the others. Thanks Tek and Pam
