Actually, yes, sort of. It goes back to the Middle Ages if I remember correctly.

Water for baths was not all that available so the family would use one tub of water to bathe in. They started with the oldest and worked down to the youngest. So the youngest child, often a baby, was the last to have a bath in that filthy water. If not watched closely it was possible for some careless person to toss out the water with the baby still in it because the water was so dirty they couldn't see the baby.

Why do we say we are p.o'd when that is a substitue for Pi$$ed off?

My grandmother asked me about this years ago and she had a point.

Shouldn't it be p'd o?

Why do people say DFW for short instead of Dallas Fort Worth when DFW actually has more syllables and therefore isn't shorter?

Good point but I guess if you hear it often enough, folks will catch on and it becomes a habit.

Why do nutritionists' explanations of overeating as a way to deal with famines (storing fat) apply to fat people and not thin people? (Why aren't thin people storing fat too?)

I just noticed this one: why is it explain but not explainations?

Why is it called a "9-5" job if people worked 40 hours a week and took a lunch break? (A "lunch hour" would result in a 35 hour week.)

Why do people only use "per" as in "Per Steve's memo..." when trying to sound formal in a message at work?

Why do people walk/jog in the street, with traffic (not against), into the sun (blinding drivers approaching from behind), with headphones on, pushing a stroller when there is a perfectly good sidewalk available?
