One that just drives me mental is this. "ON THE GROUND". What's up with that stupid phrase? THERE has been good enough for centuries but not anymore, at least among those on TV reporting the news.
"Uh, we really don't know how things are "on the ground".
"I'm here reporting "on the ground" in Egypt.
We will know about it when we get "on the ground".
Do these people think it makes them sound smarter or something?
It's because of PC. The media finds a new phrase and then they all copy-cat.
Another one that drives me mental and is mostly used by politicians is, "at the end of the day". Oh how that phrase burns me up. "Mr politician, what do you see as the result of this measure"?
"Well Mr. newsman, All I can say is at the end of the day, we see good things here".
So, at the end of the day is what? Today, next week, month, year, century or what??????????
I hate these weasel phrases!!!!!!!!!!
