Default Today's Peeve Of The Day, Tuesday 6th September.

Good morning peevers.

It is pretty horrible out there and I have to head out soon.

Yesterday Mrs J asked me about a bill that I was supposed to have paid and I remembered that I'd tried to pay it but the telephone lines were busy and I'd put it aside.

Most of our regular bills are sorted out automatically but this was a one off. Thank goodness she reminded me and I sorted it out.

Today's peeve;

Finding an unpaid bill.

Good peeve! My dad is excellent at finding unpaid print bills that I was unaware of and never made aware of...usually after the date they were due! This has become such an issue that my bank recently lowered my credit limit because I was late with so many bills...

Won't happen in my home. Since my very first bill which was my car and I was still living at home, I started using a small notebook to list date paid, amount and check number. I have done that ever since, a zillion years now. The binder stays in the top drawer of the desk. It's easy to open it and see what has been paid, what's pending and when it is due. I keep a page for each month bringing forward a list: Rent, Insurance, Credit Card, Phone, Cable, Utilities, whatever. The small notebooks with spiral binders are the best. I keep them for a while and can quickly determine what my living expenses were for any year.

Hubby and I do the bills together. We do them about 2 weeks before most of them are due....and some of them are due after that. We also keep a book with every bill written down. I am dreading next month...property taxes, car insurance, and health insurance

The only time we get caught is if is an odd bill that got mailed to us. We have a mailing service and we only get our mail about once every two months.

I do the same on my computer but I can't know about a bill unless it's sent to me in braille or in email. If they send me a paper letter (which my phone company loves to do, no matter how many times I tell them I need braille/electronic format) then I don't even know about the bill till my dad comes back in town and tells me about it. (Half the time I'm home alone so I have no way of reading my own print mail.)

Is your phone bill the same each month? Maybe you can just send it in before you even know about the bill.

We have some bills...interent, DirecTV, water in FL, and lawn service in FL which are always the same. We just prepay those. As for the other bills they don't change all that much. Make a monthly list of all for your bills. Call the companies and see if you can get all of the due dates to fall within the same time frame and then send out either the real amount or an average amount from your previous bills.

...And boy am I guilty as charged, especially since I'm a procrastinator anyway. Oops!
