Good morning, all, and happy Sunday to you! I hope this first Sunday of autumn finds you healthy and happy. We’re enjoying a warmer-than-usual fall day in south-central Wisconsin, with the highs forecast to reach into the 60s, but I know it won’t last long: the nights are frosty, and the Farmers’ Market is full of heaps of golden pumpkins and red apples, and strings of garlic and peppers. The annual flood of autumnal bounty is upon us once again, a harbinger of the turning of the seasons and a warning to stock up against the winter cold that will soon follow.

But the sun is still shining on this fine September Sunday, so let’s take a few moments together to consider:

Today’s Question(s):

Are the walls in your home painted plain white or colors?

If you’re one of the brave souls whose walls are colorful, what colors of paint do you have on the walls?

If you’ve got the plain white variety, have you ever wished you could splash a little color around?

Bonus Question:

Let’s talk about zoos! When was the last time you visited a zoo?

What zoo was it?

What is your favorite zoo animal to see?

Are there any zoo animals that creep you out so much you’d rather not go by their cage or habitat?

Extra Credit Question:

Do you subscribe to a newspaper?

Why, or why not?

Just for Fun:

If you were to describe your current mood as a dessert, what would it be?

Today in History:

1066 – The Battle of Stamford Bridge marks the end of the Viking invasions of England
1789 – The US Congress passes the ten amendments to the US Constitution that are now known as the Bill of Rights
1890 – The US Congress establishes Sequoia National Park
1911 – Ground is broken for Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts
1912 – Columbia University School of Journalism is founded in New York City
1929 – Jimmy Doolittle performs the first blind flight, proving that full instrument flying from take-off to landing is possible
1957 – Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas is integrated, with escort for the African-American students provided by the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division
1977 – About 4,200 people take part in the first running of the Chicago Marathon
1981 – Sandra Day O’Connor is sworn in as a Justice of the US Supreme Court, the first woman to hold the office

Today’s Question(s):

Are the walls in your home painted plain white or colors? Most of my walls have vinyl wallcovering on them, but the kitchen walls are painted white and the master bedroom walls are painted light blue.

If you’re one of the brave souls whose walls are colorful, what colors of paint do you have on the walls? Boring walls here.

If you’ve got the plain white variety, have you ever wished you could splash a little color around? Yes. If I had the time to redecorate, the house would look completely different. Most rooms don't reflect my personality at all.

Bonus Question:
Let’s talk about zoos! When was the last time you visited a zoo? In June, when my goddaughter visited me. We went to Brookfield Zoo, in a suburb west of Chicago.

What zoo was it? ^

What is your favorite zoo animal to see? Giraffes. < This is one of my photos.

Are there any zoo animals that creep you out so much you’d rather not go by their cage or habitat? Nope. I love them all.

Extra Credit Question:
Do you subscribe to a newspaper? Yes.
Why, or why not? I like getting the local news. All of our TV news is out of Chicago, and they only cover the big stores in NW IN and not much of the neighborhood news.

Just for Fun:
If you were to describe your current mood as a dessert, what would it be? Chocolate mousse. Soft and scrumptious!

Today’s Word:
tessera \tĕss ə rə\ noun
A small square tile of stone or glass, used in making mosaics
Cool word.

Today Is:
World Maritime Day okay
One-Hit-Wonder Day My favorite is Telstar by The Tornadoes. I think it was released in 1962. I was just in elementary school, but I remember my brother playing it on his record player and I thought it was the most beautiful song! *ha ha*
National Comic Book Day I never read regular comic books. The closest thing I've come to that is reading Mad magazine. I've been reading it since 1966!
National Crab Newburg Day Sounds good!
World Ataxia Awareness Day okay
Gold Star Mother’s Day My mom deserved a gold star. Let's give her one 40 years posthumously!

Happy Sunday, everybody!

Today’s Question(s):
Are the walls in your home painted plain white or colors?
White.
If you’re one of the brave souls whose walls are colorful, what colors of paint do you have on the walls?
The dining room has gold wallpaper with a floral design. The den has wood panelling, and one of the bathrooms has blue wallpaper.

All already done when we moved in. It works so we kept it.

Bonus Question:
Let’s talk about zoos! When was the last time you visited a zoo?
A few months ago.
What zoo was it?
Memphis Zoo
What is your favorite zoo animal to see?
Polar Bears
Are there any zoo animals that creep you out so much you’d rather not go by their cage or habitat?
Not creeped out, but I can cheerfully pass by reptiles.

Extra Credit Question:
Do you subscribe to a newspaper?
Why, or why not?
No. Newspapers have become so anemic.

When I was a kid... (starting sentences that way is a sign of aging, true) .. but when I was a kid, if a Sunday paper landed on your head it could have snapped your neck. Now you'd think a fly had run into you.

Just for Fun:
If you were to describe your current mood as a dessert, what would it be?
Have heard of a mood ring, but not a mood dessert.

I don't know, but anything with chocolate or cherries or pecans, and I'm happy.

Today Is:
World Maritime Day
One-Hit-Wonder Day
National Comic Book Day okay
National Crab Newburg Day Hoping your Sunday doesn't leave you crabby.

Today’s Question(s):

Are the walls in your home painted plain white or colors? Both.

If you’re one of the brave souls whose walls are colorful, what colors of paint do you have on the walls? Most are white, kitchen is pale yellow and some blue wallpaper trim in bath.

If you’ve got the plain white variety, have you ever wished you could splash a little color around? Splish splash I was taken a bath. Oops wrong answer.

Bonus Question:

Let’s talk about zoos! When was the last time you visited a zoo? Many years.

What zoo was it? Taronga Zoo, Sydney, Australia.

What is your favorite zoo animal to see? Koala.

Are there any zoo animals that creep you out so much you’d rather not go by their cage or habitat? Monkeys, they remind me of some relatives.

Extra Credit Question:

Do you subscribe to a newspaper? Yes, 2 different ones, national and local.

Why, or why not? I like the local news and the cross-words to play with, and the national news especially the editorials. Then the local ad specials are of interest too.

Just for Fun:

If you were to describe your current mood as a dessert, what would it be? Tutti-Frutti!

Happy Sunday to all and to all a good night...

Today’s Question(s):

Are the walls in your home painted plain white or colors?
Only one room (guest bedroom) has white walls.

If you’re one of the brave souls whose walls are colorful, what colors of paint do you have on the walls?
Earthy colours, ochres, beiges (but not the bland almost-white type of beige).

If you’ve got the plain white variety, have you ever wished you could splash a little color around?

Bonus Question:

Let’s talk about zoos! When was the last time you visited a zoo?
Several years ago.

What zoo was it?
It was a zoo just outside Beijing, China.

What is your favorite zoo animal to see?
Hard to go past pandas, especially the baby ones.

Are there any zoo animals that creep you out so much you’d rather not go by their cage or habitat?
I'll pass on the reptiles thanks.

Extra Credit Question:

Do you subscribe to a newspaper?
Nope

Why, or why not?
There's nothing in the newspaper that I can't find online.

Just for Fun:

If you were to describe your current mood as a dessert, what would it be?
I'm pretty mellow and relaxed today... so maybe a souffle that didn't quite rise as much as it should have.

Have a relaxing Sunday!
