Ah- there's a thought. Have you ever listened or talked to someone who is speaking the same language as you but you just can't understand them due to their accent?

Today's peeve;

Unable to understand someone due to their accent.

Yep. I'm not doing business with anyone that expects me to converse with people in India. Of all places. They have accents that are very difficult for most, if not all, Americans to understand. Maybe we shouldn't complain about that. After all we have open borders and people here that don't even speak the language! At least the Indian folks bother to learn the language.

After I ask someone to repeat what they said a few times.........I actually ask them to SPELL it.

I'll continue! Never met anyone in America I don't understand. Americans can tell what
I'm saying, but some think I'm Irish or Australian! The nearest to my accent I've heard
on your TV is the English girl in Frazier. She is imitating a northern English accent, not very
well - but it is similar to my accent. I was in a take-out in NYC once. I gave my order, the
girl did a little scream, called her friend over and said to me, "say something else for my
friend" so I did. They seemed to like it!! She said "that's so cute"...... Similar thing at my
hotel. I was speaking to a lady behind a desk, the American lady stood next to me said
"you're cute, here on your own?" "No" I stammered, not used to being called cute at my
age!!

I always feel bad when I can't understand someone.

When I visited California as a teen, I think some people thought I was a hillbilly because I had a light Texas accent. I was always asked to say "y'all." My accent seems to have disappeared over time, but when I get miffed it's front and center.

Good one! Especially when you're on the phone trying to talk to someone in customer service, arrrgh!!!

There are a lot of people around here I don't understand. As for me? They just say to me...you're not from here, are ya?

I really get peeved at the pharmacy when a mistake can kill you.
