A Sears store in Seattle received a pleasant surprise on Monday when an elderly man came into the store carrying an envelope of money, intent on repaying the store for the $20 to $30 he stole from a Sears cash register 60 years ago.

Manager Gary Lorentson of the Sears store said the man’s envelope contained a $100 bill, enough to repay his debt as well as interest that had been building — in the man’s conscience — since he stole the money in the late 1940s.

Amazing! I'm glad the store is not releasing the video .

U know that is a really nice story with a happy ending. Likely the statute of limitations had ran out on it, so the guy didn't have to worry about being charged with a crime. I am glad Sears took the high road.

Me too. Just imagine carrying that on your conscience for that long. Incredible.

Now that's good news. The elderly man did what he thought was the right thing to do after so many years, and Sears gave the money to a needy family. Something positive worked out for everyone. I'd like to hear MORE good news like this - these days.

I'm seriously trying to figure out how much money it would take for me to feel guilty for stealing it decades later?

I saw this story on the news, last night. Couldn't help admiring this man for righting a wrong. Just proves to me that there is no amount of money that will erase a man's (or woman's) conscience.
