Strange New Year Superstitions

Many people believe that washing dishes and doing laundry on New Year day will lead to a death in the family. And most of them even do not wash their hair thinking it unlucky.

It is believed that dancing in open air, around a tree on New Year day brings luck in love and prosperity throughout the year.

All the doors of the house should be kept open at mid night to let the old year escape unhindered.

People believe that loud noise scares devil; so New Year is celebrated with as much noise as possible. In many countries church bells rung at mid night for this reason.

Have a great weekend

Today's Question(s):

What is the one thing that you have done in your life that you would want to undo? Several things, but the one I'll tell here is that I wish I would have gone directly to graduate school after receiving my bachelor degree. I decided to work for a year or two after college, to make enough money for grad school, and then I never went back to school.

My daughter came home from school and asked me....daddy your old right
If you can go back in time...what year or era would you like to go back to? I'd love to re-visit my childhood -- the late 50s and early 60s. Had a total blast!

Do you have any phobias? I'm a bit claustrophobic.

Bonus Question:
What do you think is the greatest invention during your life time? The personal computer.

What is important to you now that your older that wasn't when you were younger? I've had the same values all my life.

Extra Credit Question:
What is the funniest prank played on you or played by you? The closest thing to a prank which I can remember doing was when I was a little kid. We had a large weeping willow tree in our backyard. My sister and I would climb the tree and sit among the branches, completely hidden from view. We would call out names at people walking by on the sidewalk and they'd look around like dummies because they didn't know where the voices were coming from. Hey, when you're a little kid, that is side-splitting hilarious!

Just for Fun:
Which is your favorite song that you would sing at a karaoke bar? Seriously: "Summertime" by Gershwin. Just for fun: Bohemian Rhapsody. (I've done both! )

Strange New Year Superstitions
Many people believe that washing dishes and doing laundry on New Year day will lead to a death in the family. And most of them even do not wash their hair thinking it unlucky. Well, they're pretty darned silly, then!

It is believed that dancing in open air, around a tree on New Year day brings luck in love and prosperity throughout the year. At least this is positive thinking.

All the doors of the house should be kept open at mid night to let the old year escape unhindered. I can see the symbolism in that.

People believe that loud noise scares devil; so New Year is celebrated with as much noise as possible. In many countries church bells rung at mid night for this reason. I knew that!

Have a great weekend

Today's Question(s):

What is the one thing that you have done in your life that you would want to undo?
There's probably a few things, but one that stands out is losing my virginity to TOTALLY the wrong guy! Of course, I thought he was the right guy at the time.

My daughter came home from school and asked me....daddy your old right
If you can go back in time...what year or era would you like to go back to?
If I can only go back to an era in my lifetime, it would be the mid-sixties, when London was bigger than the Big Apple, and life as we had known it was changing so so quickly and everything was new and exciting. If I could go back to any era, I might choose the 1920s (before the Great Depression). I think I'd have made a mighty fine Flapper!

Do you have any phobias?
Nope.

Bonus Question:

What do you think is the greatest invention during your life time? Definitely the silicon chip.

What is important to you now that your older that wasn't when you were younger?
The psychology of reasoning.

Extra Credit Question:

What is the funniest prank played on you or played by you?
We were at a business convention and a whole crowd of us went out for dinner - maybe 20 people of all different levels from CEO down. It was a fairly expensive restaurant and the wine flowed freely over the course of several hours. When one of the party went to the rest room at the end of the evening, the CEO suggested we all scoot out of the restaurant and hide. When the young man, newly employed and low on the food chain, came out of the rest room the look of shock and horror on his face was priceless when he saw the restaurant check on the table awaiting payment and only the staff in sight! The CEO was kind and put him out of his misery a couple of minutes later.

Just for Fun:

Which is your favorite song that you would sing at a karaoke bar?
I'd probably pick an early Beatles song - maybe Please Please Me. But truly, you don't want to hear me sing it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

What is the one thing that you have done in your life that you would want to undo?
I wish I hadn't dropped out of college.

[Edit: This is for the anonymous repper who said "It's never too late to study." I would like to add that I did go back to college in my 40's and found it extremely rewarding; I got an Associate's Degree but still need to finish my Bachelor's.]

If you can go back in time...what year or era would you like to go back to?
I would like to relive the night of our high school senior class party when we took over an entire amusement park and all the rides were free. I was young, carefree and starry-eyed with infatuation for my date, who was the first boy I'd ever gone out with. We spent the whole evening together having the greatest time ever.

Do you have any phobias?
I feel uneasy around heights, but I wouldn't call it a phobia.

Bonus Question:

What do you think is the greatest invention during your life time?
Antibiotics.

What is important to you now that you're older that wasn't when you were younger?
Staying in touch with family and friends.

Extra Credit Question:

What is the funniest prank played on you or played by you?
When I was in kindergarten and I needed something to do for Show and Tell, my father decided it would be a big joke to have me say in front of the class, "My daddy is 72 and my mommy is 18." I did as I was told, and Dad got a big kick out of the expression on the teacher's face when he and Mom showed up on Parents' Night and the teacher realized she'd been had.

Just for Fun:

Which is your favorite song that you would sing at a karaoke bar?
Not my favorite, but one that falls within my limited vocal range is "On the Road Again" (Willie Nelson)
