Still cooler in the NV desert today -- 55 degrees -- but the clouds have cleared.

Today's Question:
What is the best vacation spot you've ever visited? Portugal.

Why was it such a good place? Historic, picturesque, sunny people.

Large or small, what islands have you visited? New Zealand and many of its small coastal islands, Fiji, Hawaii.

Have you ever lived on an island? Yes.

If so, any pros or cons to it? It all depends on location.

Have you ever ridden in a horse drawn:
Carriage
Wagon Hayride
Sleigh
Or on horseback In my youth

Recently the Westminster Kennel Club held their annual dog show at Madison Square Garden in NYC.
Whether you own(ed) a dog or not, do you have any favorite dog breeds? The only dogs I've known well were Labs, Great Danes and a Golden Retriever. They were all wonderful.

If you could own any breed, had the space, time, resources, etc. what breed of dog (or mutt most resembling a breed) would you want to have? Any one that needed a good home.

Happy Thursday everyone.

A Picture for Today:
This is a picture by yours truly of some drivers and their carriages waiting outside the Peabody Hotel for passengers who want to take a spin around downtown. If you look closely you can see a couple of dogs waiting, too. See them? One is a traditional coach dog, a Dalmatian. You have to look close for him. Only his head is visible. The other dog looks like one of the best breeds ever - a mutt!

Today's Question, Thursday 16 February 2012 \
Here we are part way through February. The holidays are over. Some of us have had some winter weather, but it's not yet time for spring.
Snow or shine maybe cabin fever has set in and you want to get away. So where will it be? Tell us what's worked before in . . .

No plans yet.

Today's Question:
What is the best vacation spot you've ever visited?

Vina Del Mar, Chile although I was not on vacation.

Why was it such a good place?

Beautiful country, beautiful city, beautiful people.

Bonus Question:
Large or small, what islands have you visited?

The smallest island was a tiny island in Perry's Lake (deep east Texas). There was a steel cable with a slide hold stretched about 200/300 yards between a pine tree on the shore to the island.

The largest island would be the British Isles. To my knowledge they have no slide cable transports to or from the Island.

I forgot Padre Island.

Have you ever lived on an island?

No

If so, any pros or cons to it?

N/A

Horsepower Question:
Have you ever ridden in a horse drawn:
Carriage Yes. My father-in-law in west Texas had a doctor's carriage in the 1970s and my wife and I rode a tourist carriage in Philadelphia in the 1990s.
Wagon Yes. An uncle in east Texas had a buckboard and an old mare named Dixie in the 1950s.
Sleigh Possibly. I seem to recall that old uncle also having a snow sleigh in his barn. However, I don't recall him ever having any snow.
Or on horseback Yes. Mostly rode with a childhood friend in east Texas in the early 1960s through much of my youth, a few times in west Texas and New Mexico.

If so, when and where?
See above.

Just for fun:
Recently the Westminster Kennel Club held their annual dog show at Madison Square Garden in NYC.
Whether you own(ed) a dog or not, do you have any favorite dog breeds?

Not really.

If you could own any breed, had the space, time, resources, etc. what breed of dog (or mutt most resembling a breed) would you want to have?

Great Pyrenees for the farm if he/she wouldn't eat my cats.

Today's Question:
What is the best vacation spot you've ever visited?
Hmmm, I don't think I've been to a vacation spot yet that I didn't think was the best at the time. They were all great in their own way.

Why was it such a good place? I'll pick Italy for this question ... the history, architecture, food, shopping, vibrant street life, culture, etc.

Bonus Question:
Large or small, what islands have you visited?
Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand, New Britain Island, Oahu, St. Maarten, Bahamas, the Keys, Vancouver Island, Hvar, KorČula, BraČ, Crete, Rhodes, etc. Can't remember if there were any others.

Have you ever lived on an island? Australia
If so, any pros or cons to it? Pros: lots of coastline, great fishing and seafood. Cons: too far from everywhere, isolation (not just physically).

Horsepower Question:
Have you ever ridden in a horse drawn:
Carriage Yes - Montreal
Wagon No
Sleigh Yes - Quebec
Or on horseback Yes, a few places.
If so, when and where?

Whether you own(ed) a dog or not, do you have any favorite dog breeds?
I like a lot of breeds but my favourite is the Golden Retriever - both my dogs have been Goldies. But there are lots of others that are just as great. My daughter has a Flat-Coated Retriever who is just gorgeous. All dogs are.

If you could own any breed, had the space, time, resources, etc. what breed of dog (or mutt most resembling a breed) would you want to have?
Golden Retriever.

What is the best vacation spot you've ever visited? the first best place I always think of is Greece

Large or small, what islands have you visited? Some Greek island, Hawaiian islands, and Cayman Islands are the first to come to mind - there've been others, too.

Have you ever lived on an island? no, and I don't think I'd want to

Have you ever ridden in a horse drawn:
Carriage yes - buggy too
Wagon yes-ish - not in the wagon itself
Sleigh don't think so - not sure
Or on horseback with and without a saddle - plenty of times

Whether you own(ed) a dog or not, do you have any favorite dog breeds? Beagles are my favorite but I like lots of different breeds and mutts. Don't care for Chows, though.

If you could own any breed, had the space, time, resources, etc. what breed of dog (or mutt most resembling a breed) would you want to have? I don't like the idea of owning/keeping a dog - but I like to be around them.

Bonus Question:
Large or small, what islands have you visited? Just the a couple of the Channel Islands here off the coast.

Horsepower Question:
Have you ever ridden in a horse drawn:
Carriage
Wagon
Sleigh
Or on horseback Lots of times.
If so, when and where?Growing up, some friends owned pure bred Arabians. My friends dad and me were the only two people that seemed to be able to ride this one horse. His name was Al I ended up taking care of Al and the other Horses, especially when they left on a trip. Had to care for them, run then and then take them for a ride in the arena. That was a lot of work, but a lot of fun as well.
