I went through many years of being terribly unhappy.

I eventually found my joy by losing my religion. It was a noose around my neck and a chain that bound me. Once I found another path I actually found enlightenment and have never been the same since.

Now I find joy, peace and happiness in the little things in life, nature, friends, family, a glass of wine, a good book, a great TV show, an online game well played and countless other things. It is within me to choose whether I will enjoy those things or moan and complain. I prefer to choose to be happy.

Everyone finds their joy in something different but for many of us it's the everyday stuff that fills our hearts.

Yeah, some religions can be quite restrictive.

While the "simple things" don't give me joy, at least they please me. That's sufficient for now.

Usually in my husband and in the quiet moments. Today in the lab I had Pandora going and 16 bit lolita's brought some joy. I'm going to make music a regular part of the work day.

Hmmmm some. I would be happier if I got a new job. I also found joy in my son, family, holidays, friends, and choc chip mint icecream. It's a beautiful thing.

My bass guitar. It doesn't matter if I'm high or low, I can pick it up and find joy in making it sing.

Unfortunately that's the only thing.

My wife met her at work, these days they belong in the same running group. From time to time we'll all get together.

Nope, I am not even close. I'll find joy when I am content with my life and the things that I'll do with it. When I feel most comfortable with myself and my surroundings is when I'll have found joy in my life.

I am reading a book on Happiness written by a Harvard Professor and his central tenet is what you wrote. No one can be happy every single day (unless he or she is coked up). Bad stuff is inevitable so it's normal and natural to be saddened sometimes. He said instead of striving for happiness and seeing it as a destination, to instead strive to be happier, little by little.

That was a very freeing thought
