My night stand has a small potted plant, a small table lamp, flashlight, clock radio and a small framed picture of myself and my mom at my sister's wedding back in 1994. I was in the wedding, so I'm wearing a tuxedo.

On my dresser are 2 big, thick books ("Chronicles of Narnia" and a book on computer upgrading and maintenance) and a smaller table lamp that isn't plugged in--it just sits there looking pretty.
