Lot of Katrina scams and orgs that are legit misappropriating money. My SIL in Baton Rouge gave me the name of a local group that she knew used the funds for their intended purpose.

It feels good to help,but you have to find a reputable organization,and not just donate,get involved.That makes you feel good about yourself.

I was never sure either about where money was going.
I did a little research and joined Plan International UK.
For the past 12 years I've paid $30 a month to sponsor a child in Uganda,
His name is Moses and he is now 18.
I had pictures from him at first because he could not read or write.Then letters started to come signed by him, there were always regular reports from the field workers giving info about the village and how your money was being spent.
Very rewarding.
