I have two pet peeves.

1. Couples who share an email address or profile name. Email addresses are free, and it's free to sign up for a profile name on this board. There is no good reason why you have to share the same profile name especially when it's only one person who is posting all the messages. People need to have indivduality!

2. People who say, "I could care less" when they really mean to say, "I couldn't care less" which means something is so worthless that there is no way that they could care any less than they do now.

Yeah, as a nearly 40 year old single woman - I do find those sorts of things strange. I have a brother who is nearly 60, he shares an email address with his wife & their nearly 18 year old daughter - it's kinda weird not knowing who's gonna get my message. Weird

Your second one is the one that gets me ALL the time. "Oh, really? So, you actually COULD care less, huh?" lol - I love doing that to people. Not mean like - just poking fun, a bit!!!

sighing......drives me crazy......hate it!! I feel like saying "hello, you have a problem?? little passive aggressive today?"......lol

ok, I mean sighing in the negative way....not the "ahhhh" sighing like you just had a fantastic warm bowl of chowdah with a homemade hard roll.....

Default Ok I have two

One of mine is when people tell me they are going to "Walmarts" or "Kmarts"....I mean how many are you going to anyway?

Another one my brother used to do.....

He would call me up and ask me if I'm going to be home at a certain time when I reply yes he says, I might be over.
He called once and said he might be over so I replied I might be home. And promptly left.

I had your #1 in one of my previous posts on here. I really cannot figure out what causes folks to add the "s". I took Linguistics in college & the professor talked about the development of the palate & the movement of our tongue for speech, etc. She said that this very structure & how it has developed/evolved in some groups due to their region, etc - is why some have so much difficulty adapting their speech without their heavy accents or why a lot of "us" cannot roll our "R's", etc.

One of the matters she spoke of was the prevalence of saying "ax" instead of "ask" in the "Black / Afrikan" communities. It's a long drawn out explanation, study, & thinking. I have friends who are highly educated, extremely intelligent, & clearly, have excellent language skills as well. But, some of them still cannot pronounce "ask" as it is intended.

Anyhow... I found the subject fascinating & it made me far more accepting of varied speech pattern etc - knowing that some of it was due to these sorts of issues.

----

Another of my pet peeves is "snapping your gum" - girl please. Drives me crazy. I was on a bus the other night after a LONG day. It was 10pm. This grown woman was sitting there on this tiny commuter bus snapping away. I wanted to come on up outta my seat & well, take away her gum. lol

I can't stand that either! It seems like everyone says "I could care less" instead of saying "I couldn't care less?! I have even had people try to correct me when I say it right?

Funny, everyone I knew always said it the wrong way - I never knew it was said the way it's supposed to be said (jeez, my head is spinning).

I remember the instance when I thought about it for the first time many years ago. You know - aren't there lots of saying we just repeat - but never think about what they really mean or how they were started?

I thought, "But, that doesn't make any sense - folks HAVE TO BE saying it wrong!!!"

Evidently, I could care less! lol

When people claim to know about something and then it comes up during the conversation that they are baseing their views on a tv program.

People that ask questions and then cut you off.

People that can not speak proper english and then get angry when you ask them to repeat the question.
