Just for fun:
Today's last question is from Magnum Mike. If you were to be stranded on a desert island, like the castaways from the show Gilligan's Island, and you had a choice of the person or persons to be stranded with, which one of them would you choose and why:
Gilligan?
The Skipper?
Mr. Howell?
Mrs. Howell?
The Professor?
Mary Ann? This one, she was the most down to earth.
Ginger?
Today’s Word:
fell [fel] adjective - since the late 13th century, from Old French, fel "cruel, fierce, vicious," from M.L. fello "villain" and related to the modern word felon. This sense of fell now only seen in English in the phrase from Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" where "One fell swoop" means one cruel swoop of a hawk trying to catch its prey
The dictionary the def came from says "one fell swoop" is the only use. The reason for posting this word was from reading it in a book that said:
"Who knows what fell deeds . . ." And I was "fell deeds?" what's that? Your post shows it's not a dead word, just a really rare one.
