Today's Tip ~ Friday, July 6, 2012
Happy Friday, kids! Scroll on down for Today's Tip.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR LAPTOP OR PC MONITOR
Don't damage your laptop screen with improper cleaning. Here are some DOs and DON'Ts:
DO use only 100% cotton cloth that is soft and absorbent. Old cotton T-shirts and socks work great.
DO NOT use a cotton/polyester blend cloth because it contains filaments which can scratch an LCD's surface. Also, never use paper towel or facial tissue because they contain wood fibers which can damage your LCD.
DO NOT use a dry cloth on your monitor. It will only push around dust particles, which could create scratches.
DO use isopropyl alcohol (91% pure alcohol*), which is perfectly safe for use on electronic equipment and LCD screens. If your screen is not very dirty or greasy, you can use a 1:1 solution of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol 91% for light cleaning.
DO NOT use household cleaning liquids on LCDs. Never use ammonia, tap water or mineral water, as they'll leave streaks and permanent white spots. Never use window cleaners.
Never spray any solution directly on your screen. Spray the liquid on your cotton cloth, only enough to moisten it slightly, and then gently apply it to the screen in gentle, counter-clockwise motions.
*Note that the isopropyl alcohol most people have at home is 70%. Check the label!

Wow, thank you for the tips. I have to say I think I may have used some of the "don't" items to clean in the past. Yikes..well going to start doing better now. Don't see any scratches so maybe I have been lucky and used the "okay" items.
Thanks again for the great tip! :O)

Oh, come on! We can't breath on it and wipe it off with a Kleenex??!?
LOL!
Thanks for the great tips. Those screens do get dirty and I would NEVER have thought to use alcohol of all things to clean them.

91% Isopropyl is the best for cleaning LCD screens, that's what I use. Good tips Pamela.

Great tip, Pam. My laptop needs constant cleaning (mouse too), because I often eat and read...
I use air blower, then alcohol pads and computer fiber cloth.

We've always called it Methyl Alcohol and is the only thing to use on video heads and DVD sensors. Plain ol' cheap alcohol is ok for remotes and such. I think.. Thanks Pam!
