Yeah ... It's rough when you work in an environment where sick time is limited. What drove me nuts when I worked in a governmental office was that folks would come in sick even though we got generous sick leave benefits
Now that I work with college students, I am constantly faced with the sick student and have caught a few bugs from them ... Unfortunately, they get penalized for absences so they are just going to come to school sick. As a counselor, I know appts can be hard to get so students sure ain't going to miss that hard-to-get appt with their counselor. Fortunately, I did not catch anything last semester even though I've dealt with quite a few sick students and colleagues ....
Well the patients are usually sicker than we are. It's not uncommon to work sick in health care. I had to show up when the blizzard hit the winter before last. It was my first day back after vacation when the blizzard started and I was really sick. I worked 12 hrs. until 3am, slept a couple of hours and worked 16. No one cared that I had a cold, every body was needed at that point as most of the day shift didn't show up. It was actually kind of fun.
^^^ I think that's risky ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the government requires pilots and professional truck drivers to a limited on the number of hours they work, I see no reason that health care workers are required to work MORE than a "reasonable" and safe amount of time. IMHO
I supervised (or at least tried to) a couple of women who took turns being sick. One was out sick and the other told me she was pretty sure she had caught whatever the other one had. My reply was "I can assure you that you have not caught anything from her."
The other one was out due to morning sickness. She was preganant.

Oh I SO agree with this ... I never understood the logic of having someone who is responsible for patient care to be on the clock for 12 hours straight ... I shudder to think of a nurse caring for me or a loved one in their 11th hour of work .... There are SO many critical details that need to be attended to and I cannot imagine someone being alert after 8 hours of work. Heck, my brain is fried after working an 8-hour shift and my job is nowhere NEAR as detailed and demanding as nursing.

I agree,,, however too many businesses and corporations "require" you to work however many hours "they" want you to. If you don't want to work these hours then they will find another employee.
I was able to work overtime for maybe two hours and after that it just wasn't worth it,,,,, people we not productive or safe in what they did. However it may depend on the type of work a person is doing as well.
I should clarify one thing here, I do not work outside of my home. I own my own company and do what I need to from my front porch where my computer and check books are. Sneakers and I attended a wedding out of state June 16 and I am sure I picked up whatever this started as from someone at the wedding (my in laws....LOL).
