what drove people to extremes then is probably similar to what drives athletes to dope now.
After all, the desire to win by any means must have been strong to induce athletes to eat raw testicles; although
as an Olympic historian pointed out it was "probably also seen as a sign of masculinity".
We have a telly programme here every winter called 'I'm a celebrity, get me out of here.' The people on the show have to do awful tasks to get food for the other people in the show. If they fail, people go hungry.
Every series, some of the tasks involve eating testicles, and other such raw delicacies as kangaroo penis.
I'd actually heard this factoid before. Crazy stuff, huh?
