Ours is gas and doesnt put out much heat, but I love watching it, especially on a cold winter night. Mmmm.

Yes, I have to agree. fireplaces are the the best thing to cuddle up in front of with your honey, and a glass of wine on a cold winter night. No kids, no TV, no telephone and especially NO RELATIVES. Soft music, wine (bottle), big blanket and the fireplace.
Oh, and other than smores, don't forget that you can make HOBO pie too. Kids get a big kick out of those.
And I don't care about cleaning out the ash box, it's all worth it.

It was a rather cold night when me and my pookie went to Panera Bread for the first time.
I had to sit by the fireplace as I ate my sourdough bread chicken noodle soup. They could not stand the heat but I love the warm ambience of a fireplace even if it was just gas.
