I put up a live tree each year on our front porch that gets lit up on Thanksgiving night. It's winter here by then and it stays up (and lit) each night until my wife's birthday (March 22nd) or until the snow is gone. (usually early April) I do this for her, but must admit, that after all these years, I enjoy it too. One year it's colored lights for her and the next clear white for me. But in recent years I've been letting that slide and use colored lights most of the time. We also keep clear candles in all our windows year round, which I don't really count as Christmas decorations. I guess folks driving by must think we're loopy or something, but the neighbors already know that. The front overhead and side windows in our old barn are kind of a neat little architectural pieces with 12 panes of glass divided into 2 rows of six. They get an individual colored light each. Winter is dark - light it up!

Nov 1st I remove the Halloween decor and leave the fall decor pumpkins hay stacks.
The day after Thanksgiving I remove the fall decor and put out the Christmas lights and yard decor and leave it up and running until January 6th.

January 7th I remove the Christmas decor and put out the Valentine decor and lights

Feb 15th I remove the Valentines decor and put out the Lucky St Patricks Day decor
March 18th I put out the Easter yard eggs decor and lights

I never have decorated outside for Christmas except for a wreath, husband would put up some tacky lights, that after he had put in the effort and cussed and had a fit, I just couldn't tell him what they looked like...

Now I have moved, and have a wrap arounud porch, at least around the front of the house and I think that it will look great with lights around the porch and a wreath. He took my tree that he hates and now he has been evicted and its in his mothers storage.

My friend gave me a tree off of craigs list, we'll see how it does. My foyer is huge, I am thinking I will put it in there. Whit lights ONLY. A few knick knacks here and there.

Halloween...couple of pumpkins and gourds...and I was given a very pretty fall wreath. Never do I go overboard. Love to go see the crazy deco....like at houses that look like its gonna make their elctric go up by the tone of 300 extra, and how can they even afford that? MAN!

Did you buy your tree like this and where?
Do you just re-plant it every years?
My sil did this a few years but I never got the details from her.

That's the only I don't like about a real tree...it dying.
