Default Curious- how well do you know your mailman?

Hubby is a mailman. He has acquired his own route this year (we had transferred from other state). Well, I am cutesy-cutesy..and I made him make a business card and give an introduction letter with the card to each house on his route (yes, over 500- but I made them and stapled them for him!!). He does all kinds of favors for the elderly (have a lot of them, live in a very seasonal town of FL)...and carries around boxes of biscuits for all of the dogs. When people come down from up north, we give them a little treat bag with FL oranges and a "Welcome back!" letter. For Halloween, we left treat baggies with dog biscuits for their dogs, and will do the same thing for X-Mas. We even went trick-or-treating in the neighborhood he works at!
I just think, that if he is going to be around these people for years...to take care of them. For some people, he is the only conversation that they have with!

Would you think all of that is corny? Or do you speak with your mailman too?

I think that is so nice. Here in Florida, my maillady drives a truck so it's hard to see her or even chat with her. Up in NY the have to walk (go figure, NY walk, Fl drive, don't get it) anyway I enjoyed bumping into her. I would love you guys as my mail person!! I think the doggie treats are such a great idea, everyone loves their animals, what a great way to break the ice!! You guys really seem like "good people"! Hey, wanna move by me? lol
Best Wishes to you and your hubby!!

Well I have mail ladies. I've known them for years. The postmasters husband used to tip me with pot brownies years ago when I delivered pizza on the side. It pays to know your post persons!

That's not corny at all mrshvo, it's really nice.

I know my mailman a bit. We're not on first name terms or anything but we exchange friendly hellos in the morning and sometimes stand around and chat. He's a nice bloke so we always make sure to tip him at Christmas.

Mrshvo, that is great. I still remember our letter carrier from when I was in high school- Arnie. But ours now, he will wave, but hardly speaks when I am at the box waiting for my mail. I don't honestly think I would recognize him if I saw him any place in public.

Bud the mailman, what a good guy, he delivered our mail for 12 years, we always bought him a christmas present and such, when i had a motorcycle accident he brought the mail to the door so i didn't have to go out to get it, he retired and we sure miss him.

Im gonna tell you a short version of a story regarding the mailman where i used to live.
We had a mail carrier, who was one of those who walks door to door and delivered your mail into your mailbox on your door, or on your patio, where ever your mailbox may be, we didnt have those 'street' mailboxes. He was a younger, good lookin guy, and every housewife in the neighbourhood who didnt have to work during the day all admired him.
When my son Bobby was born it was ironic that he was born blonde, as his dad has dark hair. Our old mailman, was also blonde. Everyone in our neighbourhood knew each other.
One day, we were standing outside, talking to a neighbour and just out of the blue, the topic somehow, of our mailman came up. She made mention that I just 'happened ' to name my son after our mailman, and that they were both blonde. That one comment 'Bobby sure looks like the mailman!' was all it took. You just dont joke like that with a husband who already is insecure and controlling as it is!! He got so bent out of shape and became very angered, he really thought there was a link to my son and our good-lookin' mailman! Though I never really took an interest in the guy (besides he lived right around the corner, one street over, with his wife!!) many other women did.
Point being, insecurity and controlling people have no room for joking around. And you definately dont want to make any comment on how well you know anyone, of the opposite sex. Bob was a good guy, sure we've talked from time to time, very briefly since he has a route to run, and most of our talk revolved around the kids I watched (I ran a daycare out of our house) or his kids.
Since then, Ive never really met any other mail carrier because most of my mail went either to a p o box or were rural boxes where they just drive up, deliver the mail and drive off.
