The 3 most annoying words in a phone call..."Hi, it's me..."
This is something that drives me up the wall...
People calling you, and either introducing themselves or leaving a message simply starting..."Hi, it's me..."...
Who???
I have to say that the people that do this are usually the people that I find to be otherwise the most annoying people I know - And, for some reason you have to deal with them...Like a relative or a friend of your spouse.
I also find that these people are ususally compulsive in nature...The type that can't be wrong about anything, or have to have their own way in any decision.

I am guilty of saying Hi...it's me but I surely hope I am not like the stereotype you described. Wow! All that out of Hi...it's me.

I could think of some other 3 word statements that are far more annoying:
1-I am pregnant.
2-It's your baby.
3-You're getting sued.
4-Where's my money?
5-He/She is dead.
6-He/She is incarcerated.
7-You are fired.
8-It is terminal.
Those are just off the top of my head....and far more annoying than "hey its' me".

I can understand it if you are calling your spouse (or significant other) - you have a unique, ongoing relationship.
Though, it still annoyed me when my ex did it...Sometimes, while working with other people around you, or other distractions (such as just being too busy to stop and think) I have never liked the idea of having to stop and associate a voice with an identity...And, with her, it was as if she was looking for me to respond to a girlfriend or something. So, if there was some background noise or a weak signal, and I had to ask "Who?", she got downright arrogant about it..."Well who do you think it is?"...(Reason #115 why I divorced her).
It's the same with some other people I know, that get huffy about it and practically shout their names at you, like you've committed a crime by simply not immediately recognizing their voice...

The only time I say "Hi, it's me," is with my husband...and he had darn better know who I am. lol My biggest pet peeve is at work, when I get a call and the caller says, "Hi," and starts talking, expecting me to know who they are. Then I have to say, "I'm sorry, who is this?" and they act all shocked/surprised. I get calls from dozens of different people every day; just because I talked to you twice last week or even yesterday does not mean I have your voice memorized.

It's called Caller ID. Most of the time I know who is calling, and I'll answer the phone with a "Hey ___" or "Hi ____" instead of the more formal "Hello".
