Thumbs down Already SICK TO DEATH of the "Holiday" Season

Thanksgiving commercials with the Stepford Happy Family People - (and not drunk Uncle Joe yelling at Aunt Shirley)- Black Friday Ads - (for ridiculous electronics that will be obsolete by Memorial Day Sales)

I WISH there was a cave to climb into till after the GOOD Super Bowl commercials (assuming their ARE any THIS year)

Vent over - thank you for listening - I will be spending this 4 day weekend tiling a soundproof bathroom with a CD playing Rolling Stones - and David Allen Coe music in an endless loop - ZERO "seasonal" songs allowed

Default Merry Christmas married to Bah Humbug...

I love the holiday season, always have. I tend to be "less up" for Thanksgiving which for women typically involves a lot of cooking! and as I have shared on this forum before, kaykay is NOT fond of!

It seems like a lot of times that we don't like holidays because of past disappointments and dashed expectations--usually family problems. I think a lot of us have a few issues there (myself included) And many people enjoy Thanksgiving but decry the commercialization of Christmas. (As Smerkygirl pointed out, not watching a lot of television helps that aspect!) And I guess for a myriad of other reasons, people dislike the holiday season.

My husband tends not to like Christmas very much (he doesn't even really know why) and I love Christmas. I bought some Christmas towels for our master bathroom a couple years ago. The one on my side says "Merry Christmas", but the one on his side says, "Bah humbug!"

The talking bass on the wall, cards with music that start every time their opened, grocery carts full of flyers that you end up removing yourself, shows about gifts that cost more than your house. People asking for donations before you enter the store and again as your leaving...lol
I'm kidding, I love the holidays always have. Merry Merry Merry Merry Christmas everyone!

The Christmas season is a marathon compared to other holidays. I really need to pace myself in order to make it to New Year's without losing my marbles. But it's been snowing here all week and last night while driving I listened to a few Christmas songs. So I'm starting to get that holiday feel.

Also, what Smerky said...

I like the holidays but I don't want them running together from Halloween to Christmas. Many people have had Christmas lights up on their houses for a week or two already!

To me it is the whole false "Happy Family People" that are shown in every commercial - puhleez - at least talk about the conflicts combined families face EVERY holiday (you know - like the real world)

It such a great time to catch a good christmas classic playing at the local broadway theatre or listening to a Choral Performance singing holiday tunes.

Catching up with a family member who is in town that you havent seen in a long time and enjoy the beautiful children they are raising in this world.

Where will we find happiness in the second half of life? The same place we found it in the first half. Look around you. What are your opportunities to give with joy?

Christmas is what YOU make it...If you do not enjoy the commercials, try your best to ignore them...don't like the advertisements?...don't look at them...if there are family and/or friendship issues...be the one to help heal any wounds...don't like the lights on your neighbor's home? think about the happiness they must feel and the joy they hope to bring to others with their display...

The dreaded commercialism that is looked upon with more and more dislike?...maybe friends and or family are earning their living with one of these companies. Simplistic viewpoint by me? I don't know Guess even tho' we are not every Sunday Churchgoers, we have our beliefs and Christmas is a celebration of Christ's birth and a celebration involving family and memories past and memories being made now for the future.

Lights, songs, decorations, cards, the "Merry Christmas' from others, I love it all. It's what I make of it.....and what my parents so long ago made Christmas for me. Merry Christmas to All...it's just how I feel...

P.S. 'It's A Wonderful Life' is just the greatest!!!
