I am 28 years old and have lived in the same town and have been a registered voter for 10 years and have not once received a summons. You know how things go...now that I have said it I probably will! Anyone else never received one?

This is a good point because voting and jury duty are "rights" we have as citizens. Some on here have called this a "duty". I'd agree with that as well. My employment handbook has a section dealing with this topic. An employer of my particular state must provide time taken off for this very thing.
That being said, I've been summoned three times to appear. Twice, I was not selected to appear. I called the number in every instance to see If I was required to appear and only once was I required to appear. I was actually in the courtroom waiting for the trial to begin and the defendant didn't show, so we were all asked to go home.
Just not appearing or checking in is not something I would consider.

Just do your civic duty and show up. If you want to minimize your chances of having to serve, just choose your attire carefully.

I've been summoned for jury duty many times and was picked to serve once. It was a very interesting and worthwhile experience on many levels. It's rare that the average person has any input at all into our government and serving on a jury is one of those opportunities.
If you receive a summons to show up in federal court and don't go, it's likely that federal marshalls will be at your door in short order. State court is a different story.

When my wife got her first call to jury duty everyone told her to throw it away and nothing would happen. She was sitting at work and recieved a call from jury services, be here within 1 hour or we will send a policeman to get you. She went and loved it, she looks forward to it now.
Here they are getting tighter on enforcing jury duty because so many people don't show and some states will now fine you for a no show.
I like jury duty myself, it teaches you how the system really works and how picking a jury is a lawyers tool and can work for or agians't them, picking the right jury can send a innocent man to prison or set a guilty man free.

If you ignore jury duty notices twice or more where I live, you will get a notice to appear to explain why to a clerk at the courthouse, usually on slow court days. They tell you to respond to future jury duty notices and record the fact that you are a real, living person, since they mass mail notices from driver registration and registered vote records and don't know if people have died or moved or whatever.
Our local court has a snack shop and the experience is worth it.

In my neck of the woods, there is a lovely female judge named Judy who is impossibly well endowed. The clerks have nicknamed her "Juggs Judy." But you didn't hear it from me. And speaking of necking in the woods...gotta go now, time for a cold reality shower.

I used to get summoned all the time. Then one year while working offshore...I skipped it. I did leave a letter on the front door explaining I was working off shore and no way in hell was I trading a 300 dollar a day job for 25 a day. About 6 months later I got stopped for something. Speeding probably. Anyway it turns out I had a warrant. Had to go before the judge and explain myself. He basically chewed my butt and let me go with a stern warning. But I have never been called back again.
