People who use the scooters, really have another set of problems. Half of the time they don't operate. The basket only holds just so much groceries, no bulk items, can't shop for the month and then in the end, how do they get those groceries to their car? It's not an easy task for the disabled.

What aggravates me are people who are only disabled because they are SO FRIGGIN FAT that they have a multitude of medical ailments because of it. Whenever I see a really morbidly obese person on one of those mobility scooters in Walmart I want to tell them that maybe a little EXERCISE might do them some good!!!! LOL

You know, my brother-in-law is like that and he has muscular dystrophy which qualifies him to have handicap tags on his vehicle and his wife works at Wal-Mart, just thought you'd like to know that the next time you decide to go to Wal-Mart and see somebody like that. He's overweight because he can't exercise, he can't walk because of his muscular dystrophy so he has to use a scooter in order to be mobile.

I worked for a guy 10 years ago (or so) who was quadraplegic! Now there is someone who isn't going to get ANY exercise, but you know what? He worked very, very hard to keep in the best shape that he could be in. He ate good food in small portions and was probably what you would consider on the thin size for his height.

Granted, being ill or disabled or hurt makes it very hard to burn off those calories. Also, someone with muscular dystrophy might be on medications (steroids maybe) that can add to weight gain. But nevertheless you CAN work at not being obese. You just have to cut down on your calories proportionate to the amount of exercise you get.

According to neurology.org exercise is beneficial to people with this disease, so encouraging him to get *any* exercise that he can get is going to help him out.

And when you see people just sitting in a handicapped spot waiting for a person coming out of a store you want to smack 'em..... that drives me crazy... like it is a resting area for a car!!!!! There are only a few spots people in wheelchairs/walkers can park to get ez access into places and these idiots are just sitting there.... it is really just rude.....

I know that is true skbs but I have been with handicapped that have me be their legs to run into a store before. Then if they have to come in I go back out and tell them. They are sitting there in the handicapped spot in case they do need to go inside.

I think more awareness needs to be taught about why certain spots say "van only" most people don't realize the extra care if takes with WC or walkers.

So true AT3PM. Your meds caused you to lose weight from 220 to 140 in 4 months?

I do not like to see obese people at all you can eat joints going back and forth for multiple plates though. That doesn't get much sympathy from me for their over weightness. Then again an over weight person can just walk in and be judged if their weight is not caused from over eating.

I have 5-year old daughter with autism who was found eligible for a handicapped parking placard. The only time I use it is when she's with me. I don't know if I'm imagining things or not, but when I pull into a h/c spot and get my daughter out of her car seat I swear I can feel people scrutinizing me as to whether or not I'm legit or just using the placard so I can park closer. ( ( (Neither me nor my daughter have any "visible" disabilities.)So far no one has approached me, but you can bet your a** if they do they're gonna get a blast of s*** from me. People need to practice minding their own business-the world would be a better place.

I totally agree with you.... I think that a person in the hadicapped spot waiting is handicapped using the spot that is different. THEY are handicapped and if they have to go in they are close by.... they need that distance to be close. I would do the same for my BIL.... But the people who DON'T need the spot and are just using it to sit and wait... and ARE NOT handicapped.... I guess I should have clarified that earlier..... ugh... they really annoy me....

I agree with the awareness.... Wheelchairs are very hard to get in and out of the car.... my BIL is in a wheelchair and it is a total pain in the butt to get him- a grown man with no body support of his own- out of the front seat, into a chair and out from between cars.... people are oblivious...... I think retailers and shoppers are as well... BUT that is a whole other thread.....

All i am saying is please just recognize that some people may have a disease you can not see that maybe causing a condition. I wasn't being rude or mean. I was giving an example of what happened to me that was terrible and damaged some of my organs and i did suffer over the toxicity of Depakote. A very strong mood stabilizer that was contraindicated for MS anyway. Which I found out later.

I think you misunderstood my post. You were talking about how meds can make a person gain wait then you said a med caused you to lose 80 lbs in 4 months. I was only trying to clarify if that was what you were saying, any excessive weight gain or loss quickly can cause other problems. Believe me I understand what meds can do good and bad for a person as well as I know there are unseen disabilities.

Does that clear up my post now?
