I may be too young to participate in this thread, but in the 80s, I only remember three ice cream flavors:

chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

Now we have at least three different ice cream STORES: baskin robbins, ben and jerry's, and maggie moos.

A neighbor had a HUGE boom box that had a TV built into it. Needless to say, he was the coolest kid on the block!

Another funny thing just hit me....back in the 80's, we usually had alum baseball bats under or besides the car seat (for "self defense" )
Now, it's guns......huh.

Hey DCNative, I see we are the same age and we are definitely not too young to "appreciate" such a fun decade. We were kids then so we got to play with all these fun toys:

Jeez- from the 70s I can remember more flavors than that!

Mint chocolate chip
cherry vanilla
coffee
vanilla fudge
butter pecan
sherbets
pistachio (I don't think that's made any more)
Rocky Road
Chocolate Chip

Baskin Robins had 31 flavors even back then and Howard Johnsons had something like 29. And we had Friendly's where I grew up and I remember at Christmas time they had a peppermint stick ice cream.

I do remember though the first really exotic ice cream came out when I was about 12 or 13- it was Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

guess my area was a little behind on the diversification of ice cream flavors. Not anymore, though.
