Yep, saw that one in the tip linked list Monday... has anyone tried it yet?
I tried it (with a toilet paper roll). It works! I doubt if the people at Bose, Harmon Kardon or Klipsch are going to be losing any sleep over it, but it does amplify the sound and makes a nifty little stand.
Looks like it would be top heavy and tip over easily. I don't own one so can't experiment.
If you place the pins carefully, the TP stand is fairly stable. But you're right, it does tend to be a bit top heavy, and it wouldn't take much to knock it over.
