Winter Solstice
I am wondering how many people observe the winter solstice by some form of ritual. I have been observing the "turning of the wheel" for quite a few years and always manage to find a community of people to share it with.
Sometimes as I am standing in the cold around a bonfire I picture an arial view of the earth and see fires lighting up the night, as a beautiful necklace on our Mother.
Are you going to observe the Winter Solstice tonight? What do our celebrations have in common? Mine involves #1 fire; #2 honoring the 4 directions; #3 recognition of the elders; #4. drumming down the sun; # 5 stating aspirations, #6 hot soup and warm bread. I know of another person who marks the solstice by going dark at home. Shutting down all electronics and lights and living by lamp light for the day and night while being introspective. How do you observe the Turning of the Wheel?

I know when the solstice is, but I don't do anything special, except probably catch an extra minute of sleep before the sun rises!
It didn't seem like it was 6 months ago we had the summer solstice, and I'm sure June 21st will be here before you know it.

it would be endless night.....but have no fear.....we will attend to the sun....I have the feeling that there will be fires burning tonight in many many fields and groves and on hill tops and mountain peaks....I think there are a lot of us who still honor the old ways.

Or until it gets fixed! Gonna be expensive though on a weekend.
I don't do anything special at the winter solstice, but for the summer one I used to climb nearby Jay Peak at sunset and spend the night on top to see how short the night actually was. Not counting twilight, there are about 2 hours of total darkness on 6/21 at the 45th parallel.
