If I can go to home depot and buy a generator that turns gasoline into electricity why can't I go to autozone and get one that turns electricity into gasoline?

A lunch meat slicing machine that weighs the meat as you slice it. As it stands now, they cut it at one place, transfer it to the scale and then give to customer. They could save time at the deli counter if the meat/cheese being cut was dropped on a scale and weighed as cut. It is a pet peeve of mine to wait for lunchmeat, sorry.

An excellent idea. I would, however do it backwards. Not sure why, but it fits better in my head.

Have the slicer on a scale that weighs the slicer and meat. As the meat is sliced off the scale returns the difference.

So cell phones in school are a problem.

There are devices that will damp the signal so cells won't work.

During any test a teacher can flip a switch that turns on the device.

Gotcha!

How about a machine that can make 10 hotdog buns instead of 8 so when you buy a package of hotdogs from the meat department and a package of buns at the bakery they would match up?

Maybe this already exists, but what about a GPS unit that tells you the weather conditions on your route?

AkserbeN, such "batteries" were invented a while back, but they never appeared on the market because the companies that make regular batteries knew it would threaten their existence, since nobody would have to buy their products anymore.

The closest thing we already have to batteries that never die is rechargable batteries.

On the topic of inventions, a lot of the stuff we take for granted today, was not even imaginable less than 2 decades ago. Most of which we see on our modern computers.

Examples are, nobody ever thought of being able to store over 500 gigabytes of data on a disk drive, and that number is still growing. Flash drives are another example, these devices can easily fit in your pocket, and have a storage capacity of 4 gigabytes. It sure beats those floppies! Memory capacity has also increased. Just 10 years ago, it was hard to imagine a PC or a laptop with up 8 gigabytes of RAM. Though having that much memory right now is overkill and cost you a little extra, I'm sure 10 years from now, 8 gigs will be trivial.

Mike, if I may I would like to expand some on your thread.

Flash drives: Are now available in 32GB - http://tinyurl.com/38uq3n

Hard drives: One Tera byte drives are available - http://tinyurl.com/2fc2tu

Hard drives: Solid state - 128MB is, I think, the max now, but will change soon - http://tinyurl.com/2kjsl3

RAM: Is not only increasing in quantity but speed. That 8GB of RAM will run very fast. I know this will go over some heads: It is confusing if you're not into the tech bit. The reviews on this page mention speeds matching other components. Basically they are stating that the RAM is pretty much keeping up with the CPU on the motherboard. That's fast! - http://tinyurl.com/3bm2xn

Speaking of motherboards (the main board in your computer that everything else connects to and communicates through). They are becoming art:
