Duplicate Christmas Gifts
BOTH sets of grandparents got both of my kids the EXACT same gifts - two for each kid. To top it off they can not be returned as they are monogrammed and one of the items was on sale. The items came from Pottery Barn. My oldest is to'd at me because of it. The one grandparent bought it first and told me about it right then and then a few weeks later the other called and said they had also bought it. Neither know as I felt it best to just be quiet about it. I warned the kids ahead of time and they were very good when they opened the "second" ones the next day.
Now what? I thought about seeing how hard it would be to UNmonogram them? A friend does monogramming and thought about calling her to see if she could do it and it not be noticable. Then the kids could give them as gifts. Or I could try to sell them on ebay or craigslist w/ or w/o the monogram??? It is not like they need double on either of these gifts.
I'm lost on this one.

I think it would depend on what it was
Is it the type of item where your friend could embellish the monogram into a design of some type then they could regift them

We have two of the Pottery Barn Teen "Messanger Bag" and "Tote" in the "Dotie" pattern. One each in pink w/ white polka dots and green w/ white polka dots. The intials are RAS and HAS.
I've told my oldest to just deal with it as I've had to do in the past when a relative gave us a gift that did not fit at all, had no tags or receipt and could not be returned. At least these items ARE usuable if they wanted to hold onto everything and just pull the "new" one out when the other wears out. That didn't fly

I searched the site and couldn't find them
I would try asking your friend if she can use her embroidery to hide the initials
I am with you though on saving them for when the other wear out.
lol but what do us older folks know

hum...well the initials won't work for me. I'm sure that a seamstress or tailor could remove them if needed.

LOL!!! I know, I know. They think we know nothing and have NEVER been thru the same things as them.
They came from the Pottery Barn Teen ( www.pbteen.com). Here is the PB "Sleepover Tote":

I guess they are completely sold out of the messenger bags now but here is what they are but ours are in the polka dots like the one above:

They are REALLY CUTE! Both girls wanted the DVD carrying case but neither grandparent would get that. If only one of them would have

Tote bags are always useful, I would just hang on to them. Eventually they may need another one and these look really cute. You may even be able to use them.
If you really don't want them, I'm sure you can find a home for them in your local freecycle group (freecycle.org), even if they are monogrammed.

Do you have sewing tools? I'm not sure what the name is, but the little hook tool might get under the threads. My h had a jacket with a logo on it, I used the tool to pry the threads off the material and then break them. Originally I'd been going to put a patch over the spot if the threads had left holes, but it turned out that they didn't so it wasn't necessary.
I don't understand why your older child is upset with you over this, since you don't control other people's actions? Just a case of teen 'tude?
