Just recently, it was pointed out to me that I have a lot of interests, which is a good thing.
Many of those interest I have no solid physical connection to, but spend quite some time learning, and thinking about. Maybe this is time wasted on my part, although I do think it gives me something to talk to people about.
I'll give one of my interests as sailing, but I've never been on a boat that has sails.
Good question. I can only think of things I used to be connected to or am for my job. I read about art and love thinking about what to make but haven't made anything in decades. I like working w addicts and learning about addiction but I get never been an addict.
No, I'm pretty involved in the things I'm most interested in, such as music (I compose and perform), aviation (aircraft designer), and meteorology (have a weather station).

Please, anyone, feel free to add your bit.
I don't see it as a waste of time because anything you have an interest in and learn about is knowledge and it never hurts to have knowledge whether you physically partake or not.
You never know when that knowledge will come in handy when you are in a situation that you are meeting new people and you can engage in the conversation even though you have only read about that particular topic. Then you can ask more detailed questions of those who have been physically active and get a greater understanding of how things really are within that topic.

I totally agree with this. As I get older, I find myself wanting to know more about history and the people of times past, even though I don't teach it or write about it.
I'm getting more and more involved in varied parts of history.
Next year I'm looking to get involved in the marking of the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta to add to all the other historical eras that I currently am involved in.
It's interesting and fun.
